18 GLENCOE Junior HIGH PROJECT CENTRAL SCHOOL 620 Greenwood Ave., P.O. Box 322, Glencoe 847-835-7623 gjhp.org | contact@gjhp.org The mission of The Glencoe Junior High Project is to provide opportunities for Glencoe middle school students to engage with the community for the purpose of fostering socially aware, civic minded, and community-oriented individuals. For over 45 years, GJHP has provided Glencoe Middle School students with quality programs in a variety of areas, • The Oasis Youth Center Located in Glencoe’s Central School for more than 40 years, the Oasis Youth Center provides a staffed, recreational space for 5-8th grade students to access during their lunch/ recess period. Led by GJHP Senior Program Director, Melissa Di Giacomo and Program Director, Grace Haggerty, the Oasis provides opportunities for Central School students to play games, engage in activities, socialize and/ or relax in an inclusive, supervised environment. • Civic Engagement The GJHP Civic Engagement Program offers Glencoe middle school students volunteer opportunities for the purposes of engaging with individuals of varying ages, backgrounds and socioeconomic privilege, to build social awareness, empowerment and leadership. (Civic Engagement oopportunities include volunteering at the Uptown Café, A Just Harvest, Bernie’s Book Bank, CJE Senior Center, and The Glencoe Community Garden • Social Activities and Events GJHP plans and sponsors a variety of social events for Glencoe middle school students and their families including dances, parties and events to promote community. Many of these events are coordinated in partnership with community organizations including Glencoe’s Central School and Glencoe Park District. (Social Activities and Events include the Halloween Hoopla, Teen Skate Night, 6th Grade Social, Beach Bash and the Back to School BBQ) • Performing Arts Program. For 45 years, the GJHP coordinates several theatrical productions each year for the purpose of building community through the arts. The GJHP, no-cut theatrical productions are performed for the local school and village community, but also extend to additional schools, organizations, and neighboring communities. The GJHP continues to develop and provide quality programs to connect Glencoe middle school students to their community. The GJHP is a 501(3) nonprofit organization.
