Grand Marshal
Charles “Chuck” Ritz
Charles “Chuck" Ritz
Charles “Chuck” Ritz has been selected
to be this years Grand Marshal of
the Toledo Summer Festival 2019.
Chuck is a long time resident of Toledo.
He was born in Newport but
raised in North Lincoln County, where
he graduated from Taft High school in
June 1956.
Chuck enlisted in the Air Force in July
1956 and served until Sept 1964. He met
his future wife Terry Keeper whom he
married right as his enlistment was over.
He and his bride moved back to Lincoln
County where he went to work for Georgia
Pacific until his retirement in 1999.
He was a founding member as well
as charter member of Lincoln County
Search & Rescue in the early 1970s. He
also was very involved in Boy scouts as
a Den Leader and Assistant Scout Leader.
Additionally, when Don Deering was
killed in an automobile accident Chuck
took on the role of Scoutmaster. He is
still a Committee Member with Toledo
Troop 30 as well as on the district commission
for the Yaquina District from
1995- 2005. He is still very active with
Troop 30, he does many events like
the annual rendezvous where he helps
with the buck saw event. With the help
of Toledo's Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 4227, he has provided opportunities
for scouts to earn their Eagle
Scouts and a place for weekend outings
and camping. Annually with help
from VFW Post 4227, Chuck and Troop
30 place flags on every Veteran grave
at the Toledo Cemetery.
Chuck has been an active member
of VFW post 4227 since 2003. He was
Post Commander from 2017-2019 currently
he is Senior Vice Post Commander.
During his time as Commander he
brought the membership from 31 to
currently 69 members. He initiated
the Junior/Senior high scholarships
for Toledo, Eddyville and Lincoln City
as well as awards for Police, Firefighters,
and Teachers. Chuck initiated an
annual Thanksgiving and Christmas
dinner because no Veteran should
be alone for the holidays. He has arranged
funding for multiple Veteran
assistance programs at the local, state,
and national level. Nationally given
hurricane aid, State wide honor flight
which sends a veteran to Washington
DC, and locally a local toy drive, meals
to Veterans in need.
He may have retired in 1999 but that
just gave him more time to be
active in this community.
