Austria, Germany and Latvia were already hosts for one of the most prestigious European choir competitions, the European Choir Games. In 2019 the 4th edition of the event will once again take place and explore a new destination: Sweden – nation of choristers! With approximately 600 000 singers, choir singing is one of Sweden’s most popular movements and the country is thus a perfect location for this international singing event. The host city for the event has been well chosen: Gothenburg, the country’s second largest city, is a genuine music city where music is close to people’s hearts. It has a lively alternative music culture and big arena stages. Culture and the arts take center stage in Gothenburg. Singers from all over the world are invited to join, compete and celebrate a grand festival of choral music in Sweden at the Grand Prix of Nations Gothenburg 2019 & 4th European Choir Games.

FOOD AND DRINK<br />
1. SEAFOOD<br />
<strong>Gothenburg</strong> is a paradise for foodies and seafood<br />
fans. You should try at least one of the “big five”<br />
of the Swedish west coast: shrimp, oysters,<br />
crayfish, mussels, and lobster. Make sure to visit<br />
the fish market hall Feskekörka.<br />
2. LOCAL CRAFT BEER<br />
There are at least 25 craft beer breweries<br />
in <strong>Gothenburg</strong> and the city is a well-known<br />
hub among beer connoisseurs. Visit Brewers<br />
Beer Bar at Tredje Långgatan or Tullen at<br />
Kungsportsavenyn and order a glass from local<br />
brewers such as Dugges, All in Brewery, or<br />
Stigbergets Bryggerier if you’re feeling thirsty<br />
and curious.<br />
3. STAR CHEFS AND AWARDED RESTAURANTS<br />
<strong>Gothenburg</strong> has 6 restaurants with one star each<br />
in the Michelin Guide. Some of these have been<br />
in the game for ages and some are relatively new.<br />
What they all seem to have in common is the<br />
focus on local ingredients. Head to Thörnströms<br />
Kök, Bhoga, Upper House, Koka, 28+, or SK Mat<br />
och Människor.<br />
4. ORGANIC IS TAKING OVER<br />
Organic food is a big thing in <strong>Gothenburg</strong>, and<br />
not only at the restaurants. In fact, all the public<br />
kitchens in the city (including schools and preschools)<br />
are currently switching to 100% organic<br />
food.<br />
5. SWEDISH FIKA<br />
In Sweden, coffee breaks are almost holy and<br />
there is always a good reason to have a “fika”.<br />
It may not sound so special but the Swedes are<br />
very serious about this little ritual which often<br />
includes a cinnamon bun or a cake. Try a fika at<br />
one of the cafés in the Haga neighbourhood.
