Walter Lamm Fellow Nobles, as I write this article, we are enjoying (?) the summer heat. I am already looking forward to autumn and the start of college football. The Lehigh Shrine Club held our Annual Bingo at the Complex on Friday, May 17. There were 56 Nobles, Ladies and guests present. A buffet of Caesar salad, meatballs, chicken, vegetables and pie ala mode for dessert was served. Chief Rabban Marvin Miller and his Lady Marie represented the Potentate. We played a lot of bingo games with much talk and laughter. The play continued until everyone won a prize. It is always a fun and very social evening. Our June 5 meeting was the semifamous Hawaiian Shirt Night at the Roger C. Reis Brass Rail. Dinner was steak sandwiches and pizza and french fries. A delicious ice cream sundae was served as dessert. After a close (but secret) vote, my Lady Jan won the prize for the “Best Hawaiian Shirt.” Actually, it was MY shirt but she took it from me earlier in the evening. But I got to hold the TV remote control later that night so it all worked out! Another fun time with our Nobles and Ladies. A reminder to “Save the Date” for our Interclub Night on Wednesday, <strong>August</strong> 21. The meeting will be held at Lehigh Lodge # 326 on Route 100 in Trexlertown. This is our renowned “All You Can Eat” meal of ham and eggs, salad, potatoes, corn on the cob, pie ala mode, and some Camel’s milk. Please make reservations with our Secretary Noble Earl J. Marlatt. Our Golf tournament will be on Wednesday, October 9. Further information will be forthcoming. We WILL be selling Raffle tickets again this year. We hope to have them available shortly. Enjoy a safe and pleasant summer. See you at MASA in the fall! Remember to support YOUR Clubs and Units. Without member participation, we WILL cease to exist! As always, it’s GREAT to be a Shriner. HOSPITAL SERVICES So far it has been a hot summer and the number of children transported to the Shriners Hospital for appointments has increased. The June 22nd Shriners Hospital of Philadelphia Expanded Board Day was an outstanding success. With the event being held on a Saturday, there was record-breaking attendance. The hospital Marketing and Communications Staff provided an eye-opening experience to visitors about the facility, technology and outstanding staff and doctors that provide assistance in helping the children to walk again. You can support the Hospital Service Unit by participating in the Unit’s raffle. The drawing will be on September 7th with cash prizes ranging from $25.00 to $200.00. Attendance is not required to claim your winnings. The parents/guardians of the children wish to express a sincere appreciation to the drivers for their time, kindness and consideration in transporting their children for their appointments to the Shriners Hospital. In addition, the Hospital Service Unit parade float is ready for action. However, we are in need of a tow vehicle capable of pulling a 5,000-pound trailer. If you have such a vehicle and would like to participate in local parades, please contact acting President Noble Carl Willis to discuss. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
