Come to George Town -<br />

where the Tamar River meets<br />

Bass Strait - the BEST of the<br />

Tamar Valley<br />

Drive through the beautiful East Tamar<br />

on the A8 highway and turn off at Hillwood<br />

where you can visit the Hillwood Berry Farm<br />

for a selection of cheese, cream, berries, jam<br />

and quince, or book for a unique cooking<br />

experience at Hiton Bay Kitchen.<br />

Travel back to the East Tamar Highway and<br />

15 minutes later you will find the oldest town<br />

in Tasmania - George Town. On the way into<br />

town, stop at Mount George Lookout, an<br />

historical semaphore site where you will get the<br />

best picture opportunity of the Valley and out<br />

to Bass Strait.<br />

George Town is home to the old gaol, model village and display of the Women’s Factory<br />

at the historic Watch House. For further information and bookings, be sure to stop at the<br />

Visitor Information Centre as you enter the township.<br />

Visit the home of the full sized replica sloop the “Norfolk” at the Bass & Flinders Centre.<br />

From there visit the Windmill Point Playground, home of the famous Eddie Freeman tree<br />

carvings and home to the replica ship HMS Buffalo, children’s play equipment anbd free<br />

barbecue facilities.<br />

Leading from York Cove to Low Head, take the 6km cycle or walking track - the<br />

kanamaluka trail, along the edge of the beautiful Tamar River.<br />

At Low Head, maritime historians will re-live the area’s story when you visit Austrlaia’s<br />

oldest continuously operated Pilot Station, Maritime Museum and the Low Head<br />

Lighthouse.<br />

Early dusk is a perfect time to experience an up and close personal encounter with little<br />

penguins at the Low Head Penguin Tours.<br />

Stay overnight before rejoining the Tamar Valley Wine Route, home of award winning<br />

vineyards, sample some local whisky, or visit the alpacas.<br />
