Montezuma Falls

From Hobart, follow the twists and turns of the
majestic River Derwent to the historic town of
New Norfolk. Wander the old asylum now full
of antique shops and visit the Agrarian Kitchen
Eatery to sample delicious Tasmanian produce.
The picturesque Derwent Valley is home to
many hop farms with historical Oast Houses.
Salmon Ponds
About 10 minutes out of New Norfolk is the
beautifully maintained Salmon Ponds where you
can find out about the history of inland fishing in
Tasmania. It’s worth driving to Mt Field National
Park for a walk to the beautiful Russell Falls.
Head back onto the A10 and you can choose
to head to Bothwell in the Central Highlands
or further west to Tarraleah. Tarraleah is an old
hydro town with a fascinating history. You will
drive past some of the amazingly engineered
hydro-electric schemes with huge dams carved
out of inaccessible wilderness. The old worker’s
cottages have been transformed into welcoming
accommodation.
