INTERVIEW
“We don't see
intrusion as just
intruder products we
look at it from the
angle of integrated
systems and see
applications in
residential and
small- to mediumsized
businesses”
(continued from previous page)
the ground as we certainly didn't have a
problem with the equipment - it was more a
problem with the promotion. At this early stage
we are moving well and we truly believe that
our market share in the UK will grow quite
quickly.
You didn't just launch a simple system,
you've introduced many items - are these
the same as what you have out in
Europe?
Yes they are the same. We don't see intrusion as
just intruder products we look at it from the
angle of integrated systems and see
applications in residential and small- to
medium-sized businesses.
Our goal is to fulfil all of the requirements of
the customer, not just in terms of the intruder
side of security but also fire, flood/leakage,
home automation, video verification etc. We see
the approach of manufacturers like Apple with
robust technology and a good user experience
as the ideal roadmap for our company to
succeed.
How did you go about developing
something different for the market?
We decided to develop the whole system from
scratch. We didn't use any existing panel or
target any existing technology from
competitors, we simply put an iPhone down and
said "How would Apple produce a security
system, how would it work and what would it
look like?" so we were inspired by another
market altogether.
When we first started developing technology
we had some feedback on the sensing
technology and we worked closely with an alarm
response company for input. By doing this we
were able to deal with any problems with signal
failures, false alarms etc from the very
beginning rather than bringing out a system
with faults. Each time we approached a new
engineering task we ignored what already
existed in the market because much of what we
see in the market was developed up to a decade
ago, while we want to operate with a system
designed specifically for modern security
demands.
Do you expect your system to replace
technology already in place or be the
first install at a property?
I don't think it will be any different than it is in
the rest of Europe so we will see applications in
both scenarios. As people do their renovations
or look to secure new apartments we will
operate the same and not see these as two
different cases to be addressed separately.
These are early days for Ajax, but what
are your long-term plans?
We have several directions mapped out. First of
all we want to work with more monitoring
companies and at the same time develop new
protocols and user experiences for them.
Secondly we want to look at outdoor intrusion
systems and address the problems that people
may have experienced with the types of false
alarms you don't get with indoor intrusion
sensors. This is a field in which we think we
have the technology to be able to grow the
company.
How will technology evolve?
In terms of video verification, we already have
cameras and integration with streaming footage
and analytics including machine learning
capabilities, but this is another area which we
see as the future of the market so we will be
focusing a lot of attention on this.
