It is with great excitement and
pleasure that I welcome you to
this year’s International Jewellery
& Watch Fair.
This year marks a number of important
milestones for the Fair and industry.
You may have noticed the Fair has
changed its name to incorporate
‘Watch’. This is significant as we
recognise that the timepiece sector not
only represents an important income
stream for retailers, but is right back in
fashion as a timepiece, particularly with
the introduction of smart watches from
tech companies helping to repopularise
the category.
The second milestone is the cooperation
and commitment from the
buying groups to work more closely
aligned to the Fair to make it far more
cost-effective for both sellers and buyers.
Now for the first time, you as a retailer,
if you belong to a group, can look at the
total offering available up front.
The third milestone is the hands-on
practical education available on the
Fair floor. For the first time, you can be
involved in a class to fine-tune or work
on a new skill as a part of IJWF CREATE.
Supporting this initiative will be the
IJWF TALKS which are free to attend
on the Fair floor. We have great experts
covering all the latest topics that affect
your business, and I encourage you to
take advantage of these.
Topping off our programs we proudly
celebrate and encourage manufacturing
creativity in Australia with the return of
the Jewellery Design Awards, which are
a testament to the talent of the industry.
I want to thank our very generous
Award sponsors for their support
because without them, these activities
simply would not happen.
I know the industry has had a bumpy
year which has recently ushered in some
tough times, however with the Federal
Election well and truly behind us and
things looking more and more positive,
it’s more important than ever before
for us to shift our primary focus
on rebounding and growing our
businesses into the future.
To our amazing exhibitors who
have worked through the very same
challenges, thank you for your support.
To the Buying Groups for the vision
and co-operation in creating a united
industry, and to you our retailers who
have made the investment and time to
visit - we thank you.
