DAY 4: Amman – Petra
Take the scenic route to Petra, stopping at
Mount Nebo, from where Moses glimpsed the
Promised Land. From its summit you can
gaze out over Jerusalem. Follow the crosscountry
King’s Highway, forged by Old
Testament kings (and everyone who came
after). You’ll swoop through the Amman gorge
to Madaba, where you’ll enjoy lunch and see
the Byzantine Mosaic Map, made from two
million pieces of stone. Learn how to preserve
ancient mosaics before heading to dramatic
Shobak, a 12th-century Crusader castle, built
to guard the King’s Highway. Continue to your
hotel in Petra.

DAY 5: Petra
Despite Indiana Jones’s best efforts, nothing
can quite prepare you for Jordan’s rock star
landmark. Beguiling even the most discerning
travellers, Petra is located in rugged rift valleys
in what is now the southwestern region of
Jordan. The sandstone cliff-carved city was
once a thriving trade town and the Nabataean
kingdom’s capital from 312 BC to 106 AD. The
UNESCO World Heritage Site is 60 square
kilometres in total, so boot up to stroll around
remarkable sights such as the Monastery,
the Temple of Winged Lions, the Corinthian
Tomb, the Palace Tomb, and the magnificent
Treasury with your A&K guide.

DAY 6: Petra
Today, Design your Day® – giving
you the freedom to choose the experience
that is best suited to you. Select from the
following options:
OPTION 1: Explore Petra
Return to the Lost City and continue surveying
its network of tombs. This time you might
choose to walk the Siq, the kilometre long
passageway leading to the Treasury.
OPTION 2: Experience Little Petra
See Siq al-Barid, smaller but no less beautiful
than Petra. It’s mercifully overlooked by
tourists, so you can enjoy its cooling cave
dwellings and hand-painted frescoes in peace.
