ACCO PRESIDENT, MIKE AERNI
A
fter a wet and gloomy start, what a great summer
it has been! We knew it would finally show up and
it did with a bang. With the success of summer,
I’m sure you, like me, were overloaded with work.
The overload is tough because many of us were
and still are shorthanded. We’ve talked about the workforce
shortage at all levels and all of us need to continue promoting
our trade and industry to the students coming out of school.
There are great opportunities in the HVACR industry and again,
it’s important that we continue to work together promoting and
offering training to students to get into the trades.
One opportunity we have is the ACCO e.Learning Apprenticeship
Program. ACCO offers online HVACR apprentice courses for
apprentices who need a non-classroom based method of receiving
their apprenticeship instruction. Our program is recognized by
the U.S. Department of Labor and is approved by the Ohio State
Apprenticeship Council. Each course is the equivalent of one
year of classroom instruction. On-the-job training is coordinated
with a participating employer. For all the information you need to
enroll, go to accohio.org/apprenticeship-training.
push this bill over the finish
line. PHCC Ohio President
Paul Episcopo and I ask
that you please take time to
contact your state senator or
representative and tell them
why it is important to support
this bill. As Paul, said, “We all sit
back and think that others will call
so you don’t need to.” Trust me,
that is not the case, this bill needs
all our attention and support.
Remember, this is the association for your industry. If you’re
not currently a member – become a member. If you’re a current
member, get involved, make a difference and help us work
together to achieve our goals.
Sen. Tim Schaffer introduced the residential contractor licensing
bill, as SB 176, on July 11. The bill is not assigned to a committee
yet, but we have the opportunity to help build support and
