DENVER WATER’S PROPOSED<br />

LEAD REDUCTION PROGRAM<br />

Virtually all water used by Greenwood Village comes from<br />

Denver Water. The water Denver Water delivers to homes<br />

and businesses is lead-free, but lead can get into the water as<br />

it moves through a home’s lead-containing plumbing and<br />

service lines. In Denver Water’s experience, homes and<br />

buildings most likely to have lead service lines are those built<br />

before 1951.<br />

That is why Denver Water is working with the Colorado<br />

Department of Public Health and Environment and the<br />

Environmental Protection Agency to further reduce potential<br />

lead exposure for customers with lead service lines and<br />

plumbing.<br />

The EPA is considering a variance request for this program<br />

from the previously designated corrosion control method of<br />

adding orthophosphate to the water supply.<br />

Lead service lines, like the one pictured here, were initially<br />

installed by builders most likely before 1951 and are the<br />

responsibility of the property owner.<br />
