hplandmarkdaily.com sports the highland park landmark | October 3, 2019 | 27 Athlete of the Week 10 Questions with Chris Hernandez Hernandez is a senior lineman on the Highland Park football team. How did you get started playing football? When I started off, I just wanted to make friends because I was new to the area. I like the physicality, I like hitting and all that. What’s your favorite part of playing football? The bond I created with [my team] over the games throughout the years has made me want to stay with them and the coaches. What’s the most challenging part of playing football? The expectations. Even though I’m undersized, I feel like I have a lot of pressure having to deal with the bigger guys. But it doesn’t matter, anything can happen. Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? Before I get on the field I try getting angry, think about something that makes me mad and try to unleash it on them. If you could play another sport besides football, what would it be? Wrestling. I really love wrestling too, it’s so much fun. What’s your favorite place to eat? Subway. Before games, after school, I go get Subway then go to the game. Who is your favorite athlete? Anthony Cassar from Penn State, he’s a wrestler. I just like that he’s undersized as a heavyweight too, that’s how I was this year. I just like how he is as an athlete on the mat. Who is the funniest guy on the team? That’s a tough one. Aaron Burke is pretty funny, 22nd Century Media File Photo but also Joe Williams. Everyone has their own thing, everyone’s funny in their own way. If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would buy? I’d just help out with family stuff, I wouldn’t buy myself anything. I don’t need anything. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Mexico to see family. I haven’t seen them in a long time, so that would be cool.
