After making its debut in Toronto last
year, Red Bull Music Festival is returning
this month for another four days of innovative
music experiences. Festivalgoers can
expect diverse artist lineups, each night
celebrating the minds that are moving
music forward in unconventional spaces
not usually used for parties.

Friday, Oct. 17 at The Symes
Despite facing numerous challenges including
gentrification, transit infrastructure, disappearing
venues, and government resistance, Toronto’s
diverse electronic scene is not only surviving, but
thriving. Bridging the gap between the DIY communities
forging their own way, and the international
artists that inspire them, Encounters is an all-night,
multi-room celebration of the resilient underground
music scene. The extensive lineup will include local
favourites like Bambii, Ciel, Chippy Nonstop and
Karim Olen Ash; Red Bull Bass Camp alumni Korea
Town Acid and Raf Reza; and visiting international
guests including Russia’s Machine Woman and
Kaizen label head Madam X.

Toronto singer, producer, and multiinstrumentalist
MorMor (Seth Nyquist)
is in the midst of a quick rise thanks to
his mesmerizing, breezy style of indie pop.
Having spent time between New York,
London, and his home city of Toronto, this
immersive show will connect the dots
between these diverse musical communities
while spotlighting some of his closest
collaborators. In addition to a headlining
performance from MorMor and his band,
this curated evening at the 148-yearold
Berkley Church will include an
artist market-place and other
interactive installations.

From her early beginnings participating
in youth arts incubator
The Remix Project to playing
sold-out tours, Jessie Reyez
has emerged as one of Canada’s
most talented singer-songwriters.
To close out the festival, she’ll perform
fan favourites and new music
at the historic Winter Garden Theatre,
bringing some special guests
along for the occasion.

WITH FRANK DUKES
Sunday, Oct. 20 at
Daniel Spectrum
Since landing his first major label
placement in 2008, Frank Dukes
has quietly become one of the
most accomplished and in-demand
producers in history. The
architect behind chart-topping
anthems by Drake, Post Malone,
The Weeknd, Cardi B, Frank
Ocean, Camila Cabello, Lorde
and many more, Dukes has won
numerous awards. He has also
established the Kingsway Music
Library, a collection of original
samples, made available for
purchase. Dukes will make a rare
public appearance to talk about
his diverse work and what’s next.
