FOLLOWING the
torrential rains ex
perienced in many
riverine communities in
Ondo, the state government
has directed public
primary and secondary
schools submerged in
flood to proceed on three
weeks’ holiday.
Recall that a final year
student of Adekunle Ajasin
University, Akungba
Akoko, Doyin Boluwaji,
was, last week, swept away
by flood.
Also, at the weekend,
Igbotu, hometown of the
mother of Governor Rotimi
Akeredolu, and several
other communities in
the riverine Ese- Odo
council area of the state
have been sacked by
flood.
Consequently, thousands
of people have been
rendered homeless and
now use canoe to access
their destinations.
Hundreds of houses in
the council have been
submerged by flood.
Reports had it that
many residents of the
communities rendered
homeless now take shelter
on the major roads in
the town, churches, schools
and open spaces in the community.
Meanwhile, the state government,
in a statement by
the Information and Orientation
Commissioner,
Donald Ojogo, said the public
primary and secondary
schools submerged in flood
should “proceed on three
weeks holiday beginning
from Monday, October 14,
2019”.
Ojogo added, “This becomes
necessary in order to
forestall possible attendant
incidents that may likely affect
lives of vulnerable pupils
in those areas as a result of
flood”.
