Vanguard, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2019—33 NJC absolves Justice Akon Ikpeme of bribery allegations By Emma Una C ALABAR— NATIONAL Judicial Council, NJC, has absolved a state High Court judge, Justice Akon Ikpeme, of bribery allegation levelled against her by Senator Smart Adeyemi in a petition he sent to the council in 2015. The judge, who headed the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Kogi State, was accused of taking bribe and compromising her ruling in By Chioma Onuegbu UYO—THE Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Mr. Ini Ememobong, has supported renewed call for the number of political parties in the country to be reduced. Ememobong, who spoke the petition filed by Senator Adeyemi. The NJC, which set up a three-man panel to investigate the allegation, dismissed the petition after four years in a report to the NJC, absolving her of the allegation. Speaking to newsmen in Calabar, Cross River State, Mr. Mba Okweni(SAN), counsel to Justice Ikpeme during the hearing, said there was no truth in the allegation by Adeyemi which prompted the NJC to throw out the petition. while fielding questions from newsmen in Uyo, noted that such a move must be done with extra caution in order not to create confusion in the polity. HEOSL’s Manager, Government and Community Relations, Mr. Edesiri Akpomudjere, gave the assurance at a meeting with Chairman of Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Angelle Godbless, at the company’s office in Edjeba, Warri.
