skill acquisition pay

R EPRESENTATIVES
of over 2,770 youths
across the communities in
Enugu State, who were
trained in various skills,
free of charge, under the
Gburugburu School of
Free Skill Acquisition
scheme, yesterday,
converged on
Government House,
Enugu, to express
gratitude to Governor
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The jubilant trainees,
who displayed their
products such as liquid
and bar soaps, perfumes,
metal chairs, cakes
and photo frames,
among others, told
Govenor Ugwuanyi that
they were delighted that
“the wonderful skills
acquisition initiative you
created in Enugu State
since 2015” has yielded
the desired positive result.
They said the governor
has “set an unbreakable
record as your school has
trained 2,776 youths
comprising men and
women in different skills
free of charge,” adding
that the initiative has put
food on their table and
enabled them to become
self reliant.

ENUGU—THE Police
in Enugu have
interrogated one Dr.
Izuchukwu Okam, a
Medical Doctor working
at the University of
Nigeria Teaching
Hospital, UNTH, Enugu
for failure to appear in
court over an alleged
criminal defamation of a
colleague, one Dr. Uzoma
Ossai.
Dr. Okam was accused
of criminal defamation
against his colleague, Dr.
Uzoma, a former General-
Secretary of the
Association of Resident
Doctors, ARD, in UNTH.
He was said to have
alleged that Uzoma
forged a bank statement of
account of the association.
He was alleged to have
given the allegation
publicity by posting it on
several WhatsApp
platforms including,
Enugu West NMA's
WhatsApp platform and
National Association of
Resident Doctors South
East Caucus WhatsApp
platforms.
Irked by the allegation,
Ossai petitioned the state
Commissioner of Police,
that the governor has
“reduced poverty to its
barest minimum in
Enugu State” disclosed
that the school offers
about 27 subjects to the
people of the state.
They requested the
state government to
consider them for
contracts to supply their
products as a means of
encouragement.
Speaking, their patron
and traditional ruler of
Umuawalagu,
Unataeze, Nkanu East
Local Government Area,
HRH, Igwe Abel
Nwobodo, attributed the
success story of the
trainees to the sound
vision of Governor
Ugwuanyi to alleviate
the sufferings of the
people, especially the
less-privileged in the
rural communities.
Responding,
Ugwuanyi appreciated
the commitment of the
trainees to utilising the
opportunity given to
them to acquire the skills
and earn a living,
reassuring them of his
administration’s resolve
to encourage those in
the rural areas politically
and socio-economically.
Police quiz UNTH doctor over
defamation of colleague
pleading defamation of
character, damage to
image and criminal libel.
Acting on the
petition, the Enugu
State Police Command
invited Uzoma
questioning.
According to the
petitioner, the
allegation has adversely
injured his reputation
and has exposed him to
hatred, contempt and
ridicule before his
colleagues.
Police sources said
Uzoma was later served
an arraignment notice to
a Magistrate Court for
last Friday, but that he
did not appear, which
made the Police invite
him of questioning,
yesterday.
However, another
arraignment notice had
been issued to him for
Tuesday before an
Enugu South
Magistrate’s Court.
State Police Public

Amaraizu, confirmed the
development, saying the
case was reported in
2018 with investigation
concluded and
arraignment ordered by
the Commissioner.

Failed roads show Okorocha’s
cruelty to Ndimo — PDP

Democratic Party, PDP,
Imo State chapter, has
blamed the failed road
network in the state on what
it called “Chief Rochas
Okorocha’s cruelty to
Ndimo.”
The party’s position was
made public via a
statement by its state
Publicity Secretary, Mr.
Damian Oparah.
“PDP has noted the
difficulty experienced by
drivers and commuters in
the state capital, owing to
the poor state of roads in
Owerri and by extension
the entire state, caused by
substandard and poor
construction of these roads
by the former Governor,
Rochas Okorocha,”
Oparah said.
According to the Publicity
Secretary, “the party saw it
before time and by our
series of publications, we
condemned in strongest
terms, the inferior road
constructions and
rehabilitation done by
Rochas Okorocha’s
administration, but some
persons took our candid
advice and patriotism as
playing opposition to
O k o r o c h a ’ s
administration.”
He lamented that there is
hardly any state capital with
worse roads than Owerri,
stressing that “what made
it very unfortunate and
cruel is that in less than six
months after Okorocha’s
tenure, the roads in Owerri
have been washed away
and decorated with
potholes, making driving in
the state capital an
unpleasant experience and
a strenuous activity.”
While saying that the life
span of these roads would
have rightly expired, if they
were constructed years
ago, he noted that “they
were done some months
ago, by nameless
companies with poor
materials and at the same
cost for a quality
construction.”
