Festivals in Tawang are celebrated with much
grandeur. A multitude of festivals are celebrated

most important festival here is Losar which marks
the arrival of the new year. Torgya is another
monastic festival celebrated in January to make
evil spirits rush out. Some of the other major
fairs and festivals of town are Choekor, Gaden
Ngamchoe, Dukpa Tse-she, and Saka Dawa.
Losar: Losar is one of the most important festivals
in Tawang. It is considered to be the New Year
festival, celebrated in February for 8-10 days. The
charm of this festivity is the lion and yak dance.
Moatsu: A beautiful festival of the Aos tribe, the
festival is celebrated after the period of sowing
seeds has ended in May. The people celebrate this
festival for three days.
Behdeinkhlaml: One of the most important and
colorful festivals of Tawang, the Behdeinkhlam
Festival is held for three days during the month
of July at Jowai. The meaning of the festival
signifies ‘driving away of evil by wooden sticks’. It
is connected with a sequence of religious rituals.
People dance on the street roads and promote
friendship and unity among each other by beating
drums and playing pipes.

Time to visit:
The best season to visit Tawang is the summer season and onset
of monsoon season. The temperature remains comfortable and
is apt for sightseeing. The best months to visit are March, April,
May, June, September and October. Tawang experiences summer
from the month of March and lasts till June. The temperature
remains comfortable between 5°C to 21°C and is apt to
experience the beauty of the place. November to February is the
winter season in Tawang. The climate is extremely cool and the
temperature ranges from - 11°C - 12°C.

Arunachal Pradesh. As Arunachal

of Restricted Areas, official
permission is required to enter
the state. There are two kinds
of official permits prescribed by
the Government for entering into
any area within the state. They
are: (1) Inner Line Permit (ILP)
and (2) Protected Area Permit
(PAP). The Inner Line Permits are
required by Indians other than
natives of Arunachal Pradesh
for entering into any place in
Arunachal Pradesh. All foreigners
are required have the Protection
Area Permit or PAP for entering
into the state. One can obtain it in
New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, and
Tezpur.
