Route<br />
A team of architects, RCR, has placed La <strong>Garrotxa</strong> at<br />
the forefront of architecture. Their unique skill of<br />
marrying the landscape and architecture has been<br />
rewarded by many different awards, including the<br />
prestigious Pritzker Prize (2017).<br />
Athletics Stadium<br />
The style of work of the team, formed by Rafael<br />
Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, is marked<br />
by geography, landscape and culture. This undertaking<br />
has resulted in architecture that honours and values its<br />
origins, whilst enjoying a significant amount of formal<br />
freedom that is able to combine the interpreting of the<br />
location with worldwide references and influences,<br />
turning their designs into universal architecture.<br />
La <strong>Garrotxa</strong> is home to different examples of the work<br />
of this team of architects. As well as Les Colls restaurant<br />
and pavilions*, 1 Olot also hosts the Tossols-Basil<br />
bathing pavilion, 2 a discreet, elegant building located<br />
alongside the Fluvià river that adapts to the course of the<br />
river and the colours of its environment, and the athletics<br />
stadium, 3 hidden in the middle of a<br />
hundred-year-old oak forest with facilities that blend in<br />
with the surrounding topography.<br />
A short distance away in Les Preses is Pedra Tosca<br />
Park, 4 where the team worked on the landscape to<br />
mark out a route into an area of dry-stone walls. The<br />
work highlights the rugged nature of the environment<br />
and is a reminder of what mankind has done in this area.<br />
Another facility that can be visited is Can Serra Information<br />
Centre. 5 Located in the car park at La Fageda<br />
d’en Jordà beech forest, it really blends in well with the<br />
countryside. It is currently home to one of the information<br />
facilities of La <strong>Garrotxa</strong> Volcanic Zone Natural Park.<br />
