Almost 70 years ago, a delicious collection
of recipes from around the world
gave birth to a well-known breakfast marvel—The
Original Pancake House. Recognized
worldwide for specialties like the
apple pancake, Dutch baby, Dutch treat
and Dutch garden, OPH continues to offer
superior cuisine and service to residents
all over Chicagoland, including Orland
Park.
The Original Pancake House prides itself
on cooking with conventional recipes
using wholesome ingredients your greatgrandma
used. All syrups, including tropical,
apple and strawberry, are made on
site using fresh fruit; homemade sauces
are equally tasty. Real 93 score butter is
whipped each morning while orange and
grapefruit juices are squeezed by hand.
Recipes are crafted with sourdough yeast,
grown in the kitchen from a culture of
potatoes, flour, sugar and activated with
a “start of yeast”, creating melt in-yourmouth
light and fluffy pancakes.
Popular dishes at The Original Pancake
House include the four-egg fluffy ovenbaked
omelettes and create your own
skillets, both served with a side of mouthwatering
pancakes. Another traditional
preference is the oven-baked, homemade
quiche requiring hand-sliced and mixed
ingredients served in a flaky crust beside
fresh fruit and seasoned hash browned potatoes.
OPH also offers delectable potato
pancakes, which are made from handpeeled
Idaho potatoes finely minced on
the premises, then grilled to a crispy outside
with a warm and tender inside and
served with your choice of applesauce
or sour cream. Pumpkin pancakes and
waffles are also currently on the menu – a
seasonal favorite decorated with cinnamon
sugar, baked pecans and topped with
whipped cream.
With all OPH has to offer, restaurant
operations could not progress smoothly
without the help and dedication of the
staff. A familiar face at the Orland Park
location is Eddie, who has been serving
her regulars and their grandchildren for
40 years.
“Once we find a good employee, we try
our best to keep them happy so they stay,”
said Lisa Sczurek, third generation owner.
“Guests love to see familiar faces and we
want everyone to think of us as their second
home. We appreciate and respect how
hard our employees work.
“We have numerous long-time employees
in each of our five locations. Many as
long as 25-35 years,” Sczurek said. “We
know being ‘hands-on’ is key when it
comes to day-to-day operations, including
keeping our employees happy. Having a
happy staff is instrumental.”
