If you always wanted an Apple computer
but thought the cost of a new one
was too high, or you have an Apple device
that is broken and you are unsure about
getting it fixed, your solution is right in
the neighborhood.
Experimax (formerly Experimac) in
Orland Park, offers gently used computers
and mobile devices, and also repairs
those devices.
“We help our customers decide between
the cost of repair and the cost of
a previously owned ‘broken-in’ device,”
said Gary Lundquist, owner of the new
Experimax store at 9212 W. 159th Street.
Lundquist operates the new franchise location,
but really it is his son Jeff who
does all the work.
Repair shops are inclined to propose
fixing a well-worn device because they
have no alternatives. And used computer
stores only want to sell you a new device,
according to Lundquist.
It rarely makes sense to repair an old
iPad, because the cost of the repair will almost
always exceed the cost of a replacement
unit with the same or even enhanced
features. But an outdated iPhone 5 or 6
that only needs a new battery will serve its
intended purpose for less than $60 and not
require the user to adapt to a new piece of
equipment, he explains.
“We help customers make the choice
that best suits them,” Lundquist said.
