Joe and Jeanette WoodDreaming of adoptionur story begins with our baby’s birth parents,Katie and Doug. They were highschool sweethearts. Married now for thirteenyears they have struggled to make ends meeton Doug’s income only. Katie, a stay at homemom, takes care of their only child, a little boy,now age six, who has Muscular Dystrophy(MD). They have been devoted and goodparents.On a hot July morning in 2011, Katie and Doughad a second son. They recognized that theycould not afford to raise another child andmade the choice to call KCSL for help. Ultimately,Doug and Katie placed their new sonfor adoption in KCSL’s From Heart to HomeInfant adoption program. You see, Katie herselfhad experienced abuse as a child and wasplaced in foster care until she was adopted atage seven. She wanted to make certain that herbaby wouldnever beinvolved inthat systemand wouldfind a goodhome withparents whowould lovehim from the beginning. Katie and Doug’sunselfish gift of the heart ensured that BabyDaniel is now loved and cherished andsafely placed at home with a Mom andDad, and his new family!e’re Joe and Jeanette Wood,Daniel’s adoptive parents. We aredelighted to be the parents of 11 children--sixthat were born from us physically and five thatwere born from our hearts through adoption.My husband and I used to talk about adoptionprior to our marriage. We would sit and dreamand talk about all the “what if’s.”Once we married, we began a family andstarted talking to our children about adoption.They were always told that they had siblingsthat had not yet come to our family and wouldoften pray for them before bed or their meals.It wasn’t until our sixth child was born that thedoors were opened and a little boy enteredour heart and home. A few years later the Lordbrought to us a sibling set of three and wethought our family was “complete”. However, afew years later we found that our grandparentsand children all supported us so that there wasanother child that was to enter our home. Wedecided we would hire an attorney, completeour Home Assessment and wait. We told ourattorney, “we’re not looking for a child; we justfeel we need to be ready for the child that isgoing to find us.” It was almost a year later,on a Saturday morning, when we all talkedas a family about adoption and if we still feltthis was God’s plan for us. We concluded ourconversation with, “Let’s ask the Lord to makeHis answer clear to us,” a mere 15 minutes laterwe had an e-mail from our attorney describinga beautiful little boy who we now call our son,Daniel. He has blessed our lives in ways that Icannot fully articulate. When one of his siblingswas asked how Daniel had impacted their lifethey replied, “I smile more. We all smile more.”It’s been two very full, busy and joyous yearssince we first laid eyes on our sweet child. Ourfamily is richer because of each child that ispart of it. Adopted or biological makes no difference;each child is chosen and passionatelyloved!Baby DanielThe2010s20
