GreenLight Fund | BOSTON Emerald Evening 2019 Event Program

By 2019 Michelle Lambert has partnered with GreenLight Fund on four fundraising events. She is responsible for the creative development and execution for the events pre, post, and onsite creative; seamlessly incorporating the many recognizable sponsor brands, into fun interactive activities, onsite and cross-media promotions. It is a truly remarkable creative team that Michelle works with, from the event producer to catering, entertainment, performers, and treasured philanthropists. GreenLight Fund Boston identifies critical needs low-income families face in our city and imports organizations from across the country to fill that gap. We match our greatest needs with our greatest opportunity. Currently, there are more than 75,000 unemployed residents — and when we factor underemployment, that number grows. Forty-three percent of Boston residents do not have a college degree but have earned a high school degree or the equivalent. Meanwhile, jobs in the tech sector are projected to grow in the double-digits over the next years. GreenLight Boston is proud to welcome Per Scholas! Originally from the Bronx, Per Scholas is now in twelve cities across the country.

OUR PARTNERSHIP
GREENLIGHT FUND: MEETING COMMUNITY
NEEDS WITH PROVEN SOLUTIONS
The GreenLight Method, a five-part process, provides a focused
approach to making investments where they will have the most
impact. It’s how we stay nimble enough to address pressing
needs and seize opportunities as they arise.
We are an on-the-ground partner who deeply cares about
our community. To ensure early and long-term success, the
GreenLight Fund provides significant resources and strategic
support during a portfolio organization’s first years in Boston.
Each portfolio organization continues as part of the GreenLight
Boston family thereafter. The latest addition is Per Scholas.
Adults of all ages deserve well-paying jobs and careers. We are
excited to welcome Per Scholas to the Greater Boston community.
PER SCHOLAS: PLANS FOR BOSTON
Founded in 1995 in the Bronx, Per Scholas was created to bridge the digital divide by reconditioning old
computers and giving them away to schools and families in need. As part of this mission, they trained
adults from the community to recondition computers. Holding on to talent from the community was
difficult — they realized that residents, once completing Per Scholas training, were leaving for better
paying jobs, taking with them the skills employers desperately needed. More than two decades later, Per
Scholas has evolved to a national organization, opening doors to transformative technology careers for
individuals from often overlooked communities in about a dozen cities. This year, Per Scholas enrolled its
10,000th student. 87% of graduates are people of color and 31% are women.
MEET THE PER SCHOLAS LEADERSHIP TEAM
Robin Nadeau — Managing Director, Greater Boston
Robin is a servant leader who creates opportunity, fosters social change, and grows collaboration. She has over 20 years
experience in workforce development, education, and community development — both domestically and internationally —
having served communities in over twenty states, as well as in Ukraine and Poland. She is passionate about creating access
and opportunity for people who face barriers to employment.
Her work includes past positions of leadership at nonprofits, including School and Main Institute, Year Up, and Goodwill
Industries International, leading program design, management, and organizational growth, as well as facilitating social
change and partnership efforts at national, regional and local levels. She has experience facilitating and coaching leaders
in education, nonprofits, and business, and growing long-term partnerships between the public and private sectors. The
crux of Robin’s work has always been systems-building partnership efforts, skill building, collaborative leadership, and
cross-sector collaboration.
Plinio Ayala — CEO and President
Plinio became President and CEO of Per Scholas in November 2003 after having served as Vice President of Operations
with oversight for the bulk of Per Scholas’ programs. Today he leads the organization in its national expansion. Plinio
previously served as Director of Program Operations at SOBRO, and, before that, as Chief Program Officer at Jobs for
Youth. In 2012, he joined a diverse group of stakeholders with decades of experience in New York City’s workforce
system to develop a blueprint for the new Mayor, re-envisioning the New York City Workforce System. Plinio has more
than 20 years of nonprofit management experience and is deeply committed to the fight against poverty. When not
at Per Scholas, Plinio spends time with his three children and wife...and the New York Mets.
