Live In Obedience
The true evidence of a changed heart is a changed life.
Evidence of a true commitment to Christ is a life that is
obedient to His teaching, His commands and a life that
is completely submitted to His will. Charles Spurgeon,
the great British preacher also known as the ‘prince of
preachers’ once said, “Of what value is the grace I
profess to receive if it does not dramatically change the
way I live? If it doesn’t change the way I live, it will never
change my eternal destiny.”
Christ reminds us not to be merely ‘hearers of the word’
but ‘doers of the word’ and in John 14:15 tells us that if
we truly love Him, then we will obey His
commandments. Living in obedience to God means
that once we submit to Christ and He becomes our
Saviour and Lord, then we will have to give up certain
things, sinful habits, put an end to certain behaviours in
our lives and begin living in a way that glorifies and
pleases Him.
But always remember that whatever we might give up
to follow and please Christ, will always pale in
comparison to what Christ gives us in return. Paul was
so assured of this fact that He said in Philippians 3: 8,
PAGE 113
