restored and when we look back, we realise it was all
God. Not us but God.
Peter had had this experience of “launching out” with
Christ into the unknown earlier on. In Luke Chapter 5,
verse 1-10, we read of the encounter between Peter and
Jesus where Jesus provides Peter with a miraculous catch
of fish. Jesus, after speaking to the crowd told peter to
launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch.
When we come to take Jesus at His
word, what is impossible by our own
human efforts become possible
through God’s involvement.
Peter first responds by telling Jesus that he and the fellow
fisherman had worked all night and didn’t catch
anything. But he then immediately follows on by telling
Jesus, “But because you say so, I will let down the nets”
(v5).
Peter’s obedience was rewarded and “they caught such a
large number of fish that their nets began to break….and
filled both boats so full that they began to sink” (v6-7).
