The Voyage of Saints

IT was a gathering of the
creme de la creme of the
society, especially members
of the maritime and
shippers big heads as they
converged at Oriental Hotel,
Lagos to support their
own Captain Marvin Abe,
who presented his debut
novel, ‘The Voyage of
Saints’ to the public.
The event which was well
attended brought to the fore
the popular saying that
"when a child wash his
hands clean he dines with
elders" as members of the
Nigerian Ports Authority
led by its Managing Director,
Hadiza BalaUsman,
and others like Rd Ad Daji
represented by Comdr Solomon
Olushola, Akin
Omole, Mr Paul Dedejoh,
Hagi Bola Shagaya and a
host of others were present
to identify with him.
Speaking in his capacity
as the chairman of the occasion,
Mr Paul Dedejoh,
GMD Flower Mills of Nigeria
Plc confessed that the
author who he knew and
worked with for years exemplifies
the core values of
performance, integrity,
team work, initiative, hard
work of Golden Penny. He
described him as a strategic
thinker whose position
is strategic in the leadership
of Flower Mill Nigeria
Plc.
“Writing a book is not a
small mens’ feat, it takes
dreamers, great minds to
write one, especially writing
a book about somebody
that is gone years is a great
job. It is a great feat and
great mind that we are here
today”.
He described it as a book
everybody should read,
because in it you will find
love, trial, resilience etc.
Adding, that the gathering
is beyond the book,
as it is about the Lami
Foundation .
On his part, the emotionally
driven author Marvin
Abe who disclosed that the
idea started seven years
ago narrated what pushed
him into writing the book.
“The discussion about
the book started seven
years ago, but I could not
summon the courage to do
that because it was too
painful. But with time, I
picked courage to write the
book. The story is about the
woman of my life. I could’nt
have achieved a lot without
her, so I need to share
her story. I lived with her
for 15 years, but there was
no issue before she died.
And it has been a burden
in my heart, how do I immortalise
her, how do I put
her in the heart of people
so that they will understand
what she did and
stood for. She was a loyal
wife and mother.
Continuing, he stated
that "the book is a journey,
Dame Okowa celebrates Christmas
with Delta children
WIFE of Delta Governor
and Founder
O5 Initiative, Dame Edith
Okowa on Wednesday organized
Christmas party
for children from across the
25 Local Government Areas
of the state.
The celebration which
was held in government
house Asaba, had in attendance
over 3000 children,
mothers and caregivers, as
well as focal persons of O5
Initiative and wives of government
appointees with
various side attractions.
Dame Okowa who was
excited, danced with the
children and expressed
gratitude to God for another
Christmas party and
safe journey granted to all
were for the event.
According to her: “We
are here to say thank you
Jesus for the peace in Delta
State, that our families
are complete. We are no
longer afraid to travel or
organize events because of
security reasons. We give
thanks to God”.
She further thanked God
for the robust synergy
which exists between the
three arms of Delta Government
which she asserted
has contributed to development
in the state.
“In Delta State, we are
one, all of us are working
as a team”. While praying
for a better 2020, Dame
Okowa went into a session
of praise and worship
songs as the Children sang
along.
The Children engaged
in various fanfares including
dance competition, recitations
and Bible quiz with
prizes given to winners.
Santa Claus, Mickey
Mouse, Spiderman and
other Disney characters
were also on ground to
entertain the Children.

build a foundation- Lami
Foundation that will cater
for women artisans. You
remember that Lami built
a house, and while she was
doing that she had a lot of
challenges with the artisans.
So the purpose of the
foundation is to equip
women artisans. We intend
to move artisans forward,
especially in areas where
women are very few. You
know that women are the
only one that can carry others
meticulously. So the
purpose is to encourage
women in the field and the
proceeds of the launch will
go to the foundation”.
The event featured a discussion
by a panel of four
led by Buchi Onyegbule,
Onisi Dominic, Sally Kenneth
Dapsy and Achaleugo
Ezekobi that spoke about
how they felt after reading
the book. Sally described
it as a deeply moving emotional
book while Onisi
sees it as a work that is parallel
to some of his
thoughts.
According to him, “I saw
a sort of spiritual connection
and had a deep moving
experience while reading
the book. It is beautiful
romantic book that presents
a spiritual aspect to
our living that we intend
to over look in life”.
In her review, B.I. Dericks
said the 364 page book
published by Masobe
Books Lagos is a thriller
and romantic movie. A love
story, where Micheal had
a big dream.

called on the Federal Government
to prevail against
the inhuman treatment of
its president, Chief Tony
Obih, by security agents,
saying such act is affecting
the official responsibility of
his office, which is at the
verge of destabilising of the
association’s strength.
The traders who demonstrated
with placards alleged
that their president
who had gone to Abuja on
the invitation of the Inspector-General
of Police, Mohammed
Adamu over alleged
forgery of some documents
found in the traders
file at Corporate Affairs Commission
(CAC) was picked
at the Murtala Muhammed
Airport, by the police and taken
to Zone 2 and detained.
However, Okey Ezibe, who
was allegedly fingered by the
association to be behind
Obi’s travail said that Obi
altered the association’s file
at CAC and have to face the
music.
He said: “Mr. Tony Obi
committed forgery. He went
and doctored our document
at Corporate Affairs
Commission, claiming that
we had a meeting that never
held with dead people.
Instead of facing the
charges before the police,
they went about recruiting
helpless women and idle
hands to carry placards for
them in the guise of demonstration
or protest.”
In a reaction, Obi said Ezibe,
during his presidency of
the association, wrote a constitution
that favoured him to
be the Board of Trustees
Chairman for life, including
other things and in a bid to
ratify that aspect of the constitution,
he claimed that the
constitution was altered.
Wall Street edges higher after
jobless data
UNITED States (US) stocks opened slightly higher
yertersday as data showed a dip in weekly jobless
claims, while investors looked past the impeachment of President
Donald Trump, who is unlikely to be removed from
office.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 39.03 points, or
0.14 percent, at the open to 28,278.31.
The S&P 500 opened higher by 1.18 points, or 0.04 percent,
at 3,192.32, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 11.23
points, or 0.13 percent, to 8,838.97 at the opening bell.
Factbox: IMO 2020, a major
shake-up for oil and shipping
TOUGHER rules on sulfur emissions from ships will
come into effect next year in the biggest shake-up for
the oil and shipping industries for decades.
From January 2020, United Nations shipping agency the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) will ban ships
from using fuels with a sulfur content above 0.5 percent,
compared with 3.5 percent now.
The regulations are aimed at improving human health by
reducing air pollution.
Only ships fitted with sulfur-cleaning devices known as
scrubbers will be allowed to continue burning high-sulfur
fuel. Ship owners can also opt for other sources of cleaner fuel
such as liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Fintechs charged to drive borderless
trade in Africa
THE business community in Nigeria and players in the
Fintech sector have been charged to take advantage of
the opportunities that abound in the African Continental
Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) by developing intra-African
payment solutions to ease trade settlements.
This recommendation, amongst others, was discussed at
the 7th Edition of PoS Innovation Summit organised by Global
Accelerex with the theme “African Continental Free Trade
Agreement: Driving Borderless Trade Through Fintech” in
Lagos.
The Managing Director of Global Accelerex, Tunde Ogungbade,
set the tone for the event with thought-provoking
questions in his welcome remark, which centered around
how Fintechs can facilitate easy and seamless payment across
Africa in this new era of borderless trade and how the former
bottlenecks and barriers can translate to breakthroughs and
possibilities for continental commerce.
Riding on his tide, the Honourable Minister of Industry,
Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who was represented
by the Director General, Nigerian Office for Trade
Negotiations, Liman V. Liman, explained the intricacies of
the treaty, pointing out that African countries stood to gain a
whole lot by doing business with each another.
3i Infrastructure to sell stake in
Wireless Infrastructure Group
3I Infrastructure is selling its 93 percent stake in Wire
less Infrastructure Group (WIG) to Brookfield Infrastructure,
two weeks after divesting its British projects portfolio.
The deal values 3i Infrastructure’s stake in the British
independent wireless infrastructure operator at 387 million
pounds ($506.08 million), the British investment firm said in
a statement on Thursday, adding that compared to a valuation
of 291 million pounds on Sept. 30.
