S-East makes progress
on self devt—SEREDEC

Company, SEREDEC,
has announced progress
in efforts of the region to
develop infranstructure
and social services using
private sector initiative.
In its three-year
progress report at the 4th
South-East Economic
Summit in Enugu
yesterday, SEREDEC
itemised its achievements
to include take-off of
Enyimba Industrial City,
South-East rail network,
Eastern Medical Resort
Hospital, South-East Gas
Pipeline, among others.
SEREDEC, under the
chairmanship of former
Minister for Power, Prof
Barth Nnaji, stated that
progress had continued
on the Enyimba Industrial
City at Aba, Abia State,
with the Federal
Government formally
licencing the project and
a Memorandum of
Understanding, MoU,
entered into with a

spoke at the inauguration
of SOBA, said: “Security
is the pillar of every
individual and business
and the only way we can
help the government to
provide security is
through paying government
approved revenues.
“As a government in
Onitsha North, we are
doing everything possible
to stop illegal revenue
collection, in our council
area, and we have set up
a mobile court to convict
and jail illegal revenue

SEREDEC stated that
it had also signed an
agreement for railway
project with a team of
CEOs of major UK
infrastructure firms in
collaboration with
Nigeria based experts in
rail development.
The rail network will
take off from Onne to
Aba; Aba to Ontisha
through Owerri;
Onitsha to Abakaliki via
Awka and Enugu; Aba to
Nsukka via Umuahia
and Enugu.
On the gas pipeline,
SEREDEC stated that it
had engaged a team of
local and foreign based
experts from South-East
to perform a prefeasibility
study of a
looped gas pipeline
network that connects all
the South-East states.
Chairman of the
summit and former
MTN Chairman, Dr.
Paschal Dozie, asked for
more re-enforced pool of
resources to make
South-East economically
more viable.
Fake revenue collectors
warned to leave Onitsha

collecting and diverting

Anambra denies spending N1.3bn
on Christmas decorations

State government
denied, yesterday, that it
spent N1.3 billion on
Christmas decorations this
year, saying some
politicians fabricated the
story to create the
impression that the state’s
resources were not properly
managed.
The state Commissioner
for Information and Public
Enlightenment, Mr. Don
Adinuba, who reacted on
behalf of the state
government, observed that
those making such
allegation lacked credibility
and wondered how such
people expected anybody
to believe them.
He said: “How much does
Anambra receive every
month that it can spend
N1.3 billion on mere
decorations? If Anambra,
which receives a little over
N2 billion monthly from the
federation account, could
spend such an amount on
decorations, then it will
certainly not be able to pay
salaries and allowances of
workers and meet its
obligations to contractors.
“Yet, the Obiano
administration is not only
up to date in salary
payment, it is the only one
in the whole country that
has paid every worker the
2019 leave allowance.
“Of course, it is the only
administration in the whole
federation that has given
every worker in the state a
bag of rice to celebrate the
2019 Christmas. There is
hardly any aspect of our
state that is not getting
impressive attention.
“Governor Obiano is not
just an accountant, he is a
Fellow of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of
Nigeria, ICAN, and also its
patron. In addition, he is an
auditor and banker, who
rose to the top in his chosen
profession.
“The state’s Deputy
Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke,
though an engineer, has a
degree in economics.
“Governor Obiano and
his team are too focused on
Anambra’s future to spend
a fortune on mere
Christmas decorations. The
ongoing spectacular
Christmas shows in the
state are financed by private
sector operators.
“Anambra State and,
indeed, all Nigerians are
once again assured that
Anambra’s resources will
continue to be managed
most prudently to the
admiration of all.”

I’ve fulfilled promise to oil communities —Ihedioha

Emeka Ihedioha of Imo
State said he had fulfilled
his promise of restoring
electrification of the oil
communities in the state.
Ihedioha’s claim was
captured by the Special
Adviser on Media and
Communication to the
Managing Director of Imo
State Oil Producing
Communities, ISOPADEC,
Collins Ughallaa, in
Coordinator of the
programme, Mr. Fidel
Ndubuisi, said the
programme was put
together in collaboration
with the Federal Ministry
of Health as part of
Azubogu’s constituency
project for 2019.
He said 86 medical
experts, including world
Owerri, during the ground
breaking ceremony of the
electrification project.
Some of the communities
listed to have been
favoured in the 26-
kilometre electrification
project included Awara,
Asaa, Obitti, Umuapu,
Ochia and Obile.
He went further to say
that the ground breaking
ceremony of the project was
performed by Governor
Ihedioha, in fulfillment of
his promises for the oil
communities in the state.
He quoted Ihedioha to

are also looking into the
schools.
“We thank the security
agencies who are working
with this administration.
The oil companies
operating in this area are
not our enemies. They are
our friends. If we disrupt
their activities, we would be
short-circuiting ourselves.
“If you have any worries
about them, please report
to the authority, either to
ISOPADEC, your House
member or the Deputy
Governor.”
He also quoted the
Managing Director of
ISOPADEC, Anthony
Okwuosha, to have said:
“ISOPADEC is
implementing the vision of
Governor Emeka Ihedioha,
whose contract with the
people of Imo State through
the Rebuild Imo Agenda,
includes universal access to
electricity in the entire state
with the objective of
connecting every
household in every corner
of Imo State, from the urban
centres to the remotest
countryside, to the national
power grid.”
