Man jailed
one year for
stealing
chicken
AN Upper Area Court sitting
in Kasuwan Nama
in Jos, yesterday, sentenced
a 22-year-old-trader, Yusuf
Musa, to one-year imprisonment
for stealing chicken.
The judge, Yahaya Mohammed,
sentenced Mr.
Musa after he pleaded guilty
to stealing the chicken.
Mohammed, however,
gave the convict an option of
N10,000 fine.
He said the judgement
would serve as a deterrent to
those, who would want to indulge
in such an act of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim
Gokwat, told the court
that the case was reported on
December 15 at the Laranto
Police Station by Steven Pam
of Lomak Street, Laranto area
in Jos, who was the complainant.
The prosecutor alleged that
the chickens were crying out
and when the owner went out
to check on them, he saw the
convict and his friend now at
large with the chicken in
their hands.
“The owner shouted and
they dropped the chicken
and ran away, but neighbours
ran after them and caught one
of them,” Gokwat said.
On arraignment, the accused
pleaded guilty and
begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor said the offence
contravened Sections
58 and 272 of Plateau State
Penal Code Law.
Missing boy in Ondo church:
Police arrest 10 suspected arsonists
•...recover looted property, prevent razing General Overseer’s house
By Dayo Johnson
AKURE—NO fewer than
10 suspected arsonists
have been arrested by police detectives
in Ondo State over
Wednesday’s burning of the
Sotitobire Miracle Centre,
Akure, where a one-year-old
boy, Gold Kolawole, was kidnapped
Reports had it that two policemen
and three other persons
died during the clash between
police and the youths, who
razed the church.
But the state police command
confirmed that only three persons
died including a policeman,
while another policeman
was critically injured.
Communal conflict claims many lives in
Cross River
By Emma Una
CALABAR—AN
early
morning communal
clash between neighbouring
communities of Ebom and
Usumutong in Abi Local Government
Area of the state, yesterday,
reportedly claimed
many lives with some houses
razed.
An eyewitness, Ukirebi, said
skirmishes started yesterday at
about 5 am with heavy and sophisticated
weapons freely used
by both sides in the fight.
Another source in the area
which prefers anonymity said
the attack was the handiwork
of the people of Ebijakara, an
aggrieved community which
was sacked by their Ebom
neighbours in 2005.
“The attack was launched by
Ebijajara people and unless
the government takes the initiative
of resettling these people,
it will be difficult to put
paid to these recurring conflicts
in the area.”
In December 2018, there was
an incident like this where the
palace of the traditional ruler of
the place, Solomon Osim Edward,
and the country home of
his brother, Air Vice Marshal
Eko Osim, retired, were razed.
Cross River State Police
Commissioner, Nse Akpan
pect, who has seventeen children
from different women, was
arrested following a complaint
from the mother of the 16-yearold
victim, who reported at
Ewekoro police station.
The woman said that her
daughter, who has been living
with her ex-husband, informed
her that she was impregnated
by her father, who also took her
to a quack medical practitioner
for abortion.
The victim’s mother also explained
that since the abortion
was carried out, the victim has
been bleeding.
Vanguard gathered that the
suspects that were arrested
equally looted the property of
the General Overseer of the
church, Prophet Babatunde
Alfa, who is currently in the
custody of the DSS, after they
razed the church.
It was gathered that after ensuring
that the church was
razed to its foundation, the riotous
youths marched to his
Oda residence where they damaged
the building, vehicles and
looted his properties.
Recall that some irate youths
stormed the Osinle headquarters
of the church early on
Wednesday, following a rumour
that the corpse of the missing
boy was exhumed from the altar
of the church.
But on getting to the church,
they met pastors of the church
holding a church programme.
An argument ensued and the
youths accused the church leaders
of not being remorseful
about the case of the missing
boy.
The youths thereafter attacked
the church while the policemen
deployed to the church to quell
the uprising were equally attacked
leading to the number
of the casualties recorded.
Speaking with Vanguard, the
command’s spokesperson, Femi
Joseph, said: ”Investigation is
ongoing and I can assure you
that any person linked with the
incident won’t be spared.
“Yesterday, we were able to
arrest 10 persons and they are
in our custody. We also intercepted
a vehicle carrying some
of the properties looted from the
pastor’s house. The police were
able to protect the pastor’s
house from been set ablaze, but
some of his properties were
looted and some of his cars
were damaged but the cars
have been moved to state CID.”
He confirmed the death of a
I had sex with my daughter several times
— Man who impregnated daughter reveals
By Esther Onyegbula
Oyeyemi, who is currently
being investigated by operatives
of Ogun State Police Command
for impregnating his
teenage daughter, has revealed
that he slept with his daughter
several times.
According to Oyeyemi, “I
have slept with my daughter
several times, as a result, she
got pregnant. In order for my
secret not to be exposed, I decided
It was gathered that the sus-
who confirmed the incident
said he was out of the state
and did not have the figure of
those killed so far and a number
of houses razed.
He called for dialogue to resolve
the perennial conflicts
among warring communities
in the state.
Sequel to the report, the DPO
Ewekoro division, SP Rotimi
Jeje, detailed his JWC section
to go after the suspect and he
was eventually arrested.
Confirming the arrest, the
Spokesperson Ogun State Police
Command DSP Abimbola
of Police, Kenneth
Ebrimson, has directed that the
suspect be transferred to Anti-
Human trafficking and child
labour Unit of the State criminal
investigation and intelligence
department for further investigation
and prosecution.
Police Sergeant and two other
civilians, noting that another
Police was critically injured and
on admission in the hospital.
He appealed to residents of
Akure to be law-abiding citizens
and detach themselves from any
unlawful act capable of putting
them in trouble.
Joseph said they would soon
be charged to court after thorough
interrogation.
Meanwhile, the state police
command has apologised to the
three journalists that were manhandled
by policemen during
the clash with the youths.
The command’s spokesperson
profusely apologize on behalf
