WHAT’S HAPPENING
1965
Ebert F Haegele, a teacher of science
and math for 32 yrs at Covington Latin
School, retired in 2015.
1967
Fr. Joe Thaler has served as a
Maryknoll Missionary in Nepal for
40 years. His many innovative and
significant contributions include:
providing building materials for
1200 homes and 7 schools after a
devastating earthquake in 2015;
providing school supplies, textbooks,
and scholarships; initiating mushroom
farming, briquette making, and pig and
sheep raising as income generators;
initiating a sewing program for the
disabled; promoting education of
skills like photography and social/
security awareness of dangers like
human trafficking. For a third year, the
CCH National Honor Society chose Fr.
Thaler’s mission for its philanthropy
project.
1969
Barry Kienzle
received a 2019
NKU Outstanding
Alumni Award and
the Distinguished
Service award for
his exceptional
leadership and
service to NKU.
Barry is semi-retired from Paul
Hemmer Company, where he served
as the chief financial officer. He has
served on the NKU Foundation Board
since 2001 and was president from
2015-2018.
1986
Rob Detzel is formerly the principal at
St. Cecilia School and led the school
to its first ever National Blue Ribbon
Award. Rob, his family, and Father
Mario Tizziani (school pastor), went to
Washington, D.C. to receive the award
from the Secretary of Education.
1990
Greg Trauth completed the IronMan
Cozumel (2.4mi swim, 112 mi bike,
26.2 mi run) in 11 hours 53 minutes,
finishing in the top 20%. Greg would
like to encourage all Colonel Cross
Country runners and swimmers to get
a bike for graduation.
2011
Adam Schmidt is engaged to Kaitlin
Peed. He is an Art teacher at St.
Augustine, Covington; St. Joseph,
Crescent Springs; and St. Thomas, Fort
Thomas.
2000
Michael James Fischer and his
wife proudly announced the birth of
their daughter, Kathryn Ellington, on
October 21, 2018, weighing 7 lb 11 oz
and 20 inches.
2009-2010
Four Colonel alumni in the University
of Louisville School of Medicine,
Class of 2019, received their residency
assignments on the National Match

Jake Thelen was recently featured in
an article in the Louisville Courier-
Journal regarding his basketball
coaching career. As Georgia’s Director
of Basketball Operations, he is the
youngest in this role for any Power
Five program in college basketball.
This is his second time working for
coach Tom Crean, who previously
brought Jake to the Indiana University
program as a graduate assistant.
1981
Scott McKinley sent greetings
from Sydney, Australia. He toured
New Zealand, Melbourne, coastal
Aus (Great Ocean Road), and
finally Sydney. He also joined 15
St. Pius X parishioners and Father
