As early asin the Middle Ages, salt springs were rising here,from which salt was extracted. In 1572, miningbegan here. Flooding the mines with water turnedthem into a huge underground lake, which in 1752required the introduction of a new technology suchas pumping brine in leather mosses using a gaple,a pump powered by horses or oxen.SLOVAK TECHNICAL MUSEUMIN KOŠICEThe Slovak Technical Museum as the only museumof technical focus in the territory of Slovakiaprovides a comprehensive view of the history of scienceand technology. Being the main centre of museumdocumentation, it manages an extensive collection fund,initiates care for selected technical monuments in situthroughout Slovakia, and provides expert assistancein their preservation and restoration. It documentsthe contribution of Slovakia and its personalitiesto the development of world science and technology.A number of original exhibits are presented in exhibitsand exhibited collections.
