Did you know that ...

... the traverse is one of the

roughest parts of the race?

The key is to stay high and

tight to take speed into the

Zielsprung jump to the

finish line.

Traverse

The ‘line’ skiers decide to take in the

traverse can often be the margin

between winning and losing. You

have to maintain speed and stay the

course. This is where rubber meets

the road!

Did you know that ...

... Kristian Ghedina‘s famed

straddle jump over the

Zielsprung at 150 km/h is the

stuff legends are made of?

Zielsprung

I tell you what: the Traverse is no joke! Fully

concentrated on the task ahead, I swing forward into

the wobbly climbing net. I really have to tense my

tired muscles to keep up my speed - not unlike the

real traverse, there are more than a few tricky

obstacles ahead and there’s no time to catch my

breath. I can hear the roar of the crowd at the finish

line. One foot in front of the other, I keep my speed and

my balance steady. Every second counts if you want to

stand atop the winner‘s podium and hold the golden

chamois trophy aloft!

Shooting forth at an incredible 150 km/h, racers fly

towards the finish line. Michael Walchofer’s 156 km/h

record speed is the fastest to date.

Now I‘ve finally made it! The flags at the finish

are in front of me and the audience spurns me

forward as a cheer erupts from the stands. I tuck

down into a squat and accelerate towards the

Zielsprung. One last adrenaline rush carries me

through the red tubes to the finish line. A quick

look at my official time: Have I set a new record?

After all, everyone who conquers the Streif in

winter or in summer is a winner. Having

exercised my muscles, I feel ready for the

upcoming ski season.
