Did you know that ...
... racers are subjected to
centrifugal forces of up to 3.1
Gs on the Karusell curve?
These are the same forces
that astronauts feel when
they launch into space on a
rocket!
Karusell

Steilhang
The Steilhang is the iciest and most
challenging section of the Streif. Racers
have to count on sharp ski edges to make
it down this steep slope!

The Karusell entrance is a key point in which
the margin between victory and defeat is thin!
After all, racers can only see their exact landing
point while in mid air.
The Karusell demands both skill and strength from
competitors. In fact, it‘s not uncommon that in the
Karusell the decision falls who wins and who loses on
the Streif racing piste. Someday, maybe not this year,
I want to read my name, Gerli, on the winner‘s board
in the Legends Park. So I muster all my courage to
balance on the thin wire rope, like a small circus
chamois balancing high above. Carefully, one foot in
front of the other so as not to lose my balance, I
proceed to the end of the rope and reach up to grab
the colourful climbing grips on the rock face. For the
small downhill climbing course, I once again gather
all my strength with one goal in mind: reaching the
ground safely. Hooray! I did it! I completed the Karusell!
Did you know that ...
... the Steilhang is covered in
ice in winter? Ski edges have
to be ground to an 85° angle
so that the skiers can hold
the line as they zip downhill.
The time has come once again to muster all of my
courage. The Steilhang, icy in winter and really steep
in summer, spreads forth before me. Surefootedness
and a firm grip allow me to climb into the oversized
red climbing net. It‘s a bit shaky, but here I benefit from
my mountaineering experience - I’m sure you’ll make
it too! Once up top, I allow my gaze to wander over the
surrounding mountains. I’m proud to call Kitzbühel
my home.
