Although originallywritten to be staged, the cantata will beperformed as a choral piece, with soloistsand a children’s choir, accompanied by twopianos and a range of percussion. The songs tell of the fickleness of fortuneand wealth, the nature of life, the joy ofSpring and the pleasures of drinking, gluttony, gambling and love. Much of thework is based on the turning Wheel ofFortune, beginning with the dramatic ‘OFortuna’, which is well-known from its usein many films and adverts.
