You can’t know theNYC drag sceneand not know theforce of naturethat is Brita Filter. Brita isknown for being one ofthe leading talents on theNew York scene right now,and her hard work haspaid off, as she’s part ofthe cast of “RuPaul’s DragRace”! I caught up withBrita as she and her fellowNew York City sistersprepared for their closeups, and we talked aboutNew York City talent andshe shared the secretto New York City dragsuccess! So, it’s official: You areon Season 12 of “RuPaul’sDrag Race”!It is wild. I still don’tbelieve it.What does it feel like rightnow? It feels incredible! Itfeels like all my dreamsare coming true. It hasbeen a secret for solong, and now that I canactually tell people, it’sfinally feeling real. Itactually started feelingreal recently when I washaving a conversation withRuPaul at the “SaturdayNight Live” after-party.I am really just sittinghere having a good oldkiki with Mother Ru, andshe’s complimenting mylook; it’s just wild. It wasincredible. It was just niceto talk to her as a humanbeing and just get to havethat conversation. It wassuch a beautiful night. You are on this seasonwith so many of yourNew York sisters, whoare all so talented. Whatis it like taking the ridewith so many of yourhometown sisters? It’s the best of the best, honestly. All of these girlsI respect, and their dragis all so different, we alldo different things. It isso nice to have familyhere. We have all grownup together in the scene. It was so nice to be thereand have people that wecould really lean on andpeople that we can cussout when they’re being abitch, because they’re oursisters. You recently were thetoast of the Women’sMarch in Washington, D.C.What was that experiencelike?I am a spokesperson fornot just our community, but for women, and thatis why I dress up likea woman! It was reallyimportant for meto be there. I thinkthat especially withthe fame and thepopularity that weall are going tohave, it’s importantto use thatfame and thatpopularity forgood, andthat hasbeenmy stancesince I starteddrag. It is importantto me to go stickup for people, andI can now be thespokesperson forso many people whodon’t have a voice orare afraid to have avoice. Being there meantthe absolute most. I washonored with an award bythe Women’s March, also.It was an absolutelybeautiful weekend. You are on the show withsuch a diverse cast, butyou are known in NewYork City as one of thegirls who has really madeit happen for herself. Whatdo you think it takes for atrue New York girl to makeit in the drag scene in NewYork City? You just have to keepon working. You haveto have new ideas andnot compare yourselfto anyone else. Keepchallenging yourself. It’struly how I made my ownname. I never comparedmyself to anyone else,I just always tried tooutdo myself the nexttime, to make sure that Iwas always on my toes.Honestly, people getso stuck intheir headsand alwayscomparingthemselves, even withthe GlamAwards.I alwayssay, theonlyway youwill win isto challengeyourself thenext time betterthan the last, then, sis, you gotit!@thebritafilterFRIDAYS
