Agricultural Education is the teaching of Agriculture, naturalresources and land use management and is undertaken to prepare studentsfor employment in Agricultural sector.The adoption of Agricultural Science in school curriculum helps in social andeconomical development of our nation. Agricultural Education represents afood, fiber and natural resource system that employs people and provides forthe well-being of our state and nation.The learning of Agricultural Science at Tavua College has given students anopportunity to develop and appreciate for an interest in field of Agricultureand to establish a basic foundation for students who wish to study Agricultureat Tertiary levels. Considering the need for exposure, department displayswere organized during the TEST week to enhance learning and promotion ofAgriculture as a subject. The practical sessions urge students to augment their owncapabilities by emphasizing on activity based farming.The department comprises of 3 teachers who have worked hard throughout the yearand were able to successfully deliver the prescribed curriculum at various levels andprepare students for external examinations. Evidence of learning was most apparentwhen teachers set high expectations for their students and when the students werestimulated and challenged to engage with the learning process. This was evidentwhere 7 students scored more than 90% in the year 13 Agricultural Science paper toexcel 100% pass for Years 13, 89% pass for Year 12 and 56% pass for Year 10.At this juncture, I thank my department teachers for their commitment, and cooperationtowards teaching of Agricultural Science.Finally, I would like to thank the Principal, Vice Principal, Assistant Principal, staff,students for their continuous support during the year.Wishing all the students the best of luck in their exams.
