MY CARA MIA
TRATTORIA'S
MYSTICISM
August 2019. two months after moving
from Cara Mia Trattoria's 653 Ninth Ave.,
Manhattan venue, they occupied for 22
years, Billy, their Maitre'D, pleasantly
invited me inside, before I walked passed
their new 697 Ninth Ave, premises. Seated
at one of their table's pristine white
tablecloths with fine dinner-ware, their
serene vivacious ambiance which included
Italian art and yesteryear's pop culture's
black and white photos of famous Italian
stars, plus four consecutive-annual Best
Restaurant Awards, adorning its walls.
Cara Mia's fine Italian wine, paired well
with their succulent homemade Crocchette
Di Granchio's warm crab cakes, corn and
avocado appetizers and Pratoli Ripieni's
stuffed mushrooms with pancetta,
mozzarella and red peppers. This best kept
NYC Italian dining secret, with fresh
healthy $9.95 lunches and pre-fix meals
starting at $19.95, includes appetizers,
despite my misconception that their pricey
dinners start at $30.
Inevitably, divine mysticism enabled
Billy to invite me, an ideal diner who'd
soon treat family, colleagues or whomever,
like a VIP, affordably, like thousands of
tourists and locals raving about Cara Mia's
jewel venue, six blocks from NYs Port
Authority and Times Square, in Clinton-
Hill/Hell's Kitchen's Manhattan residential/
cultural/ commercial zone.
Mr. Besin, Cara Mia's owner's success
includes their Maria Pia's West 51st Street,
Intermezzo's 623 Ninth Avenue and his
downtown Limon Jungle, Gallo Nero and
Taqueria restaurants.
FT. AND BAR
Vanessa Braxton, founder of Black
Momma Vodka, as the only African
American female distiller, master blender,
manufacturer and owner of it's nationally
distributed vodka, finished 2019 with three
more New York shopping plaza's Black
Momma Tea & Cafe restaurant's store
fronts. Growing up in Brooklyn, as her
Guyanese parents first generational child
this spell-bounding cafe's customers will
curiously select from its 160 assorted tea
blends, three flavored agaves, plus several
organic food items, wraps and muffins.
Braxton's 2020 insights for her Colonial
Springs Road, Wheatley Heights,NY.
enterprise, include it's future as an industry
tea leader, similar to Starbucks' coffee. Her
cafe's bold and eye catching name is an
attraction in this 60% Black and Latino
community. "I have plenty of places I could
go, but I wanted to take the opportunity for
people who look like me to see what I'm
doing for the community, so that they can
step up and do the same thing," she replied,
to questions about its location.
Black Momma's headquarters and
training facility will accommodate
franchisees and community members'
meeting rooms and the Cafe's free
technology, investing and business
workshops.
Black Momma's 33,000 on-line and
wholesale transactions, generated $3
millions in sales, since Black Momma's
Vodka started in 2013. It's high-quality
vodka manufactured in Oregon waters,
started in 2015. The 50 year-old business
titan's multi-million dollar empire is slated
for international distribution and listing on
the New York Stock Exchange in 2020.
Vanessa's Wefunder, equity crowd
funding similar to Kickstarter and
GoFundMe, amassing over $1 million in
capital financing is cause celebration for
any five year old firm. However Black
Momma's distinction is a rarity for which
organic teas and cafe dining meets its soulstirring
vodka sensation. Visit:
