The scope of the workshop was to commemorate the
invention and recent development in the field of highperformance
ceramics. During the last few years, the
design of engineering ceramic materials, as many other
high-tech materials proceeds the transition from microstructural
to the nano-structural approach of their preparation. The main benefit of this
approach is a new quality of materials as high temperature super-plasticity; excellent
mechanical properties (high strength, fracture behaviour approaching the quasi-ductility,
higher reliability, increased HT properties); functional properties (high electrical and
thermal conductivity, optical transparency, graded function/properties of materials), etc.
