PHIL SHAWJEFF MCKEEPhil is one of the world’s leading professionals in aviationrisk assessment and mitigation. He is internationallyrecognised in this field, having completed projects at over70 airports in North America, the Middle East, SouthPacific, New Zealand and Australia. Phil sat on theInternational Birdstrike Committee’s Steering Committeeand is the only Australian to have done so. Phil haswritten or delivered papers to more than 50 conferences.Phil has worked as a consultant for more than 25 yearsand for nearly 20 years on airports. He is owner andManaging Director of two very successful companies –Ecosure and Avisure. Since 1994 Phil has grownEcosure into an award winning company that is now oneof the largest ecology-based environmental consultanciesin Australia and Avisure in the past few years has openedoffices in Vancouver, Canada and Brasilia, Brazil.Phil is passionate about delivering practical solutions. Heachieves this primarily by inspiring those around him.Stakeholder and community engagement and guidingcommittees are particular strengths. He has chaired,participated in, or provided technical advice to more thanfifteen committees relating to various aviation matters.Jeff has found a way to combine his passions through histraining as a commercial pilot and wildlife veterinarian. Hehas piloted light aircraft in the remote northern Australiaas part of the national Brucellosis and TuberculosisEradication Campaign, co-founded the regional IbisManagement Coordination Group based on a significantwildlife strike, and used Remotely Piloted AircraftSystems to monitor wildlife. In these and many moreprojects, Jeff has played a crucial role in identifyinginnovative approaches to wildlife management. Hisapproach is heavily influenced by his keen interest inaviation; he gained a Commercial Pilot’s licence in 1989and a Commercial RPAS licence in 2012.He has over twenty years’ experience designing AviationWildlife Hazard Management Programs, assessing newmethods and equipment and investigating wildlife strikeincidents. He is a member of the International Society ofAir Safety Investigators (ISASI) and was the aviationinstructor for 2WG 213 SQN Australian Air Force Cadets(AAFC).Jeff’s experience makes him ideally suited to supportAvisure projects particularly in the areas of quality controland foundation science. He is also heavily engaged inproject design and developing new areas of expertisewithin the company.10
