Tava by Skylerann Gorgonio-Wong
For Dr. Gould
The people here call you Pikes Peak
After someone dared to say
He discovered you first.
But you have a different name
A name from a different world.
So I ask you,
What is your name?
If we listen hard enough,
If we listen with purpose
And with patience
The ʻāina will answer
Tava,
Like the sun
Because when the sun
Kisses my highest peak
All of me glows
While we gaze at your beauty
You stare back at us
To only see
More and more buildings
More and more roads
And more and more people
Who do not know your name
