There are very real challenges facing our worldtoday. A pandemic, financial concerns, isolation, andhealth issues can create anxiety and fear. When thenews is all doom and gloom, it’s hard for even the mostoptimistic among us to stay positive, but that is exactlywhat we must do!Just at a time when we need each other the most,self isolation rules have been put in place leaving manyof us feeling bored, dreadful, or even depressed. Whilethis is a serious situation, there are things you can doto mitigate the damages to your health and well-being,and to emerge stronger and on sound footing. Here aremy favorite suggestions:or complete a home repair project. Take anonline course, read a book, watch a ‘how to’video. The possibilities are endless.Connect with family and friends. Rememberall of the people you say you want to stay intouch with but time slipped away? Well, now isthe time to say hello! Call distant family. Contactan old friend. Write a letter. Video chat. My sonand his friends celebrated Saint Patrick’s Daywith a Zoom happy hour. Be creative and havefun!Focus on your blessings andlimit negative thoughts. Begrateful for what you do have.From the biggies – good health,a home in which to seek shelter,food on the table, time spentwith loved ones, to the tiniestblessing – an emerging flower, abeautiful bird, a smile, there isalways something for which tobe grateful! Gratitude changesyour brain chemistry andanatomy, which has an impacton your health and well-being.It helps you see things from anew perspective.Practice self care. Boost yourimmune system so it can doits job. Make sleep a priority,exercise, eat well and care foryourself. This is a great timeto practice meditation, yoga,or sound healing. Read a book,watch your favorite movie,dance around the house, do apuzzle. Take part in any activitythat can help you relax andreduce stress.“When thenews is alldoom andgloom, it’shard for eventhe mostoptimisticamong us tostay positive,but that isexactly whatwe must do!”Explore new business opportunities. Theworkplace as we know it is evolving. In orderto meet these changes, this is a good time todevelop new skills or services, or transformexisting ones. Take an online class or work witha coach or consultant.Don’t go it alone. If you feel overwhelmed,anxious or depressed, seek help. Reach out toa therapist, coach, spiritual advisor, a friend, oronline community (a positive group not one inwhich everyone complains). Remember you arenot alone, help is available.And above all, be kind. This is the time forus to be united. Love thy neighbor. Reach out tothose who are alone, or offer help to someonein need. Don’t hoard important items andstop making negative social media posts orcomments.We all are in this together and we all cancreate a stronger, more unified, loving world.Limit your intake. Put down the phone, reduce socialmedia time, stop searching all news outlets. Obviouslythere are things you need to know about the situationin order to protect yourself and those around you, butyou do not need to hear about every unpleasant detailfrom dawn until bedtime. Information is important,but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.Find the balance - connect, but disconnect.Learn a new skill. Do something for yourself.
