Macmillan is the UK’s lead<strong>in</strong>g cancer supporter charity giv<strong>in</strong>g personal, one-to-one care and support to thousands of people every day. Leisure Centre to Rema<strong>in</strong> Open Hundreds of L i c h f i e l d l o c a l s attended a s p e c i a l C a b i n e t meet<strong>in</strong>g on 7th October which saw <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council’s Cab<strong>in</strong>et vote to recommend that Friary Grange Leisure Centre rema<strong>in</strong>s open <strong>in</strong> the short-term. The meet<strong>in</strong>g, held at The Garrick, was called <strong>in</strong> response to a petition to ‘save Friary Grange Leisure Centre’ that received around 11,000 signatures. The decision by Cab<strong>in</strong>et means Friary Grange Leisure Centre will now rema<strong>in</strong> open beyond April 2020. Poll<strong>in</strong>g Station Review <strong>Lichfield</strong> District Council is carry<strong>in</strong>g out a review of local poll<strong>in</strong>g stations and poll<strong>in</strong>g districts. Up to 82,000 local people are eligible to vote <strong>in</strong> district-wide elections. For each district-wide election, the council organises up to 96 poll<strong>in</strong>g stations that span two parliamentary constituencies and 28 parishes. Isabelle Asto<strong>in</strong> (14), Jenna Langley (14), Harvey Hughes (13) and Seb Fisher (13) have jo<strong>in</strong>ed the U15 Midlands Regional Performance Centre hav<strong>in</strong>g been talent spotted whilst play<strong>in</strong>g for their county. Lily Upton (16) has been chosen for the U17 Girls Midlands Regional Performance Centre this season, hav<strong>in</strong>g been previously a member of the U15 squad. F<strong>in</strong>ally, Sophie Hughes (16), hav<strong>in</strong>g also played <strong>in</strong> the Futures Cup last season, has been chosen for this season’s National Age Group Programme, the highest honour for a junior player. On 9th September, the club welcomed MAAC members, Jo and Kelley, who gave an <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>sight <strong>in</strong>to the work carried out. A s<strong>in</strong>gle flight costs around £2,500 and the NHS doctors, who work alongside the helicopter crews, are paid their normal rates via the charity’s funds. Overall, consider<strong>in</strong>g the cost of medical equipment and helicopter fuel, the charity needs £9 million per year to keep its teams <strong>in</strong> the air. <strong>Lichfield</strong> Women’s Club is a member of the National Association of Women’s clubs and has been cont<strong>in</strong>uously active <strong>in</strong> <strong>Lichfield</strong> for 52 years.
