OUR SUCCESS IS BECAUSE OF YOU
A LETTER FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR AND CEO
Greetings to our Covenant House California Community! After celebrating 30 years of incredible service last year, we have
used 2019/2020 as a jumping off point for what is to come in the next 30 years. Launching our vision of growth in the midst
of a pandemic is not something we expected. The impact of the virus has had a devastating impact on our economy, and
nearly everyone in our country. But the ones who have suffered the most are those who were most vulnerable already. One
thing is clear; there is so much more to do to help youth who are suffering through homelessness and human trafficking in
California. With over 12,000 young people that don’t have a safe place to sleep each night in California, the need is
immense. Therefore, this year has been one of significant growth, planning and fundraising for our plans to expand, beyond
our Hollywood site, and our three sites in the Bay Area. In the coming 12-18 months, Covenant House California is looking
forward to completing the following key projects:
— Hollywood: 20% increase in the number of shelter beds, and kitchen dining renovation at
our Hollywood site
— Oakland: The addition of 25 beds, and a total site renovation at our Jack London Square site,
including the addition of a medical clinic on site, that is now operational
— Berkeley: A new 24-hour site for our 30-bed YEAH Shelter program
— The Crenshaw Project: The opening of a new 30-bed Apartment-based site in Los Angeles,
that will accommodate parenting youth and their children
— Orange County: The development of a 25-30 bed site for youth in Anaheim, CA.
The first shelter program for homeless Transitional Aged Youth in Orange County!
— Rapid Re-Housing: Expansion of our apartment placement and support programs in both
Southern and Northern California
In all, the projects will enable us to house close to 200 additional youth each night, and to serve countless more through our
street outreach, drop-in centers, medical clinics, and aftercare programs. We can only do these things because of the
incredible support of our Covenant House community; donors who give so generously, volunteers who enrich the lives of our
youth each day, corporate partners who pledge their employee support and resources, and even government agencies. We
feel incredibly blessed to be a part of a community who cares so deeply for the most vulnerable young people in our country,
and are the reason we have been able to increase our services in a time when many other providers reduced or closed their
programs. But, you made sure Covenant House was there for the youth who needed us most! And because of your
compassion and generosity, we can’t wait to see how many lives can be transformed over the next 30 years!
