António Joaquim Granjo was a Portuguese lawyer
and politician. Granjo took action against
the Monarchy of the North, an attempt to restore a
royalist regime in the north of Portugal, in 1919.
Later became Minister of Justice and Prime Minister,
in 1920.
During the infamous "Noite Sangrenta", on 19 th
October 1921, Granjo was assassinated.
He became known as a fighter for freedom and
equal rights.
