How did you learn to shoot fashion/beauty photography?I was a conceptual photographer for abouta year until a friend of mine wanted somefashion shots, I fell in love with the stylingand editing part of it. I liked the idea ofhaving a full team on set and collaboratingwith different individuals to create a certainlook, so I wanted to try it more. Pass forwardtwo years, and I met this amazing MUA,Ahood, who wanted some beauty shots and Ijust knew this is my new favorite genre.Q. Any tips for those looking to getoutside of their comfort zone and try newphotography tactics?I think it’s important to step outside of ourcomfort zones, try new tactics and let ourcreativity take over. Always remember thateven the masters of photography were oncebeginners. Ask questions and don’t be afraidof failure. Learn to pick yourself back up andpractice again and again.Q. How did you make the switch to fromTFP to getting paid for your passion?I can literally write a book about this topic.Often times, people tend to forget or ignorethe fact that artists have to pay bills andupgrade equipment. After I built a solidportfolio, I learned to value my work andapproach clients that respect what I do.Building my packages and putting a price onmy work was one of the hardest things I hadto do as a photographerQ. What does your editing process looklike?First, I retouch the photos, then adjust thecolors based on the mood or the theme I’maiming for. Beauty shots usually take metwo-to-three hours of retouching. Whereasfashion shots take anywhere between 20 to 45minutes. I enjoy every second of it.Q. Where and how do you scout yourmodels?In the beginning, I used to work withInstagram models. But now I mainly shootagency models. Agencies reach out and sendme their modeling packages, then selectmodels with my team based on the lookwe’re aiming for. We always search for uniquemodels that can add to our work.Q. What do you love most about being afashion photographer?I feel like I’m completely myself when Ishoot. When I hold the camera, I forget abouteverything and focus on getting the shot. Ialso really love meeting amazing people. Imet the most amazing and inspiring peoplefrom fashion photography.Q. What is the Best advice you ever receivedwhile pursuing your dreamTwo advices actually. First one is to invest inyourself. Educating ourselves is priceless. Thesecond advice is to understand the differencebetween following the money and followingyour passion. Following the money will onlyget you so far, but following your passion willtake you to new places.14
