Programme Objectives
• Exploring self-discovery through the arts that fosters
authenticity, self- confidence, and purpose
• Gaining fundamental skills in performing arts and
theatre production

ensemble members, instructors and staff

between personal faith and art

Certificate in
Theatre Foundations
Student Enrollment: maximum of 14 students
Time Period: September to April
Certificate in Theatre Foundations is an eight-month intensive of theoretical and
practical classes in theatre arts. It offers a season of personal investment to
explore artistic abilities, and participate in the conversation about the relationship of
personal faith and art-making.
All of this enriching activity happens while living and working in ensemble in the
remote prairie hamlet of Rosebud. Whether the village is abuzz with an audience
enjoying dining and a production at Rosebud Theatre, or seems forgotten by time
on a winter morning, the relationships and the environment add vital benefits and
challenges to the experience.
In addition to all of the learning that happens in Rosebud, students venture out to
see professional productions. Groups of students and staff go in to Calgary once or
twice a month, and a highlight of the year is an 8-10 day trip in February to British
Columbia to see productions, participate in workshops, visit cultural attractions, and
be refreshed by the beauty of Canada’s west coast.
We value process over product. We offer a safe environment to engage the rigors
and rewards of the broad field of theatre. We require intellectual discipline in
reading, writing, and oral interpretation to strengthen our relationship with
Language. Our goal for successful completion of the program is that students gain a
healthy understanding of their artistic talents, a hunger for life-long learning, and a
theatre skills for future endeavors in the arts.
Whether you are just completing your secondary education, or are further along
in life and inspired to explore your artistic gifts, Rosebud welcomes you to take an
“adventure of the heart” in our Certificate in Theatre Foundations program.
