After12 months of global use in a variety ofindustrial applications, Axalta’s feedback onVoltatex 4224 from its customers has beenoutstanding."Using Voltatex 4224 at Siemens has led toa significant reduction in the operatingtemperature of water-cooled motors. This lowemissionimpregnating resin is just as easy toapply as conventional impregnating agents,”said Thomas Werbinek, Head of R&DServomotors, Siemens, Bad Neustadt,Germany.Michael Glomp, Axalta's global vicepresident for Energy Solutions, explains thebenefits of the lower operating temperatures,"Voltatex 4224 improves the heat transferfrom the copper winding to the steel core.This leads to less thermal stress in a motors’components, reducing the operatingtemperature by up to 30˚C or the size of themotor by more than 15%. And the design ofsmaller and more efficient motors leads to areduction in the use of metal resources, whichis very much in line with Axalta’senvironmental sustainability goals."Joachim Klötgen, head of automaticimpregnation systems, Meier Prozesstechnik,Bocholt, Germany, says, "When using Voltatex4224, Meier Prozesstechnik has shown that itcan be applied using conventionalimpregnation technologies such as trickling,dipping and rolling. It is therefore possible touse the same system technology withoutincurring any problems.”Voltatex 4224 at a glanceAvailable globally, this low-emissionimpregnating resin allows for the design ofsmaller and more efficient motors, and for thesignificant reduction of the operatingtemperatures of standard design motors.Compared to most standard impregnatingresins, Voltatex 4224 has a thermalconductivity that is more than double - 0.5 to1.2 W/mK. In addition, Voltatex 4224 ismanufactured using renewable raw materials.Voltatex 4224 is available in three viscosityadjustments – low, medium and high - and itcan be applied using conventionalimpregnation technologies such as trickling,dripping and rolling. It is a styrene- and vinyltoluene-free impregnating resin, which meansthat emissions are reduced to a minimum inorder to create a better working environmentand limit flammability as well as emissionsexposure.Prestigious awardIn November 2019, Axalta received theR&D 100 Award for Voltatex 4224.
