We will be hold<strong>in</strong>g our AGM at<br />
the end of November. Some of<br />
our Officers and Council<br />
members will be stand<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong><br />
and others will be stepp<strong>in</strong>g down.<br />
We are now look<strong>in</strong>g for new<br />
members to jo<strong>in</strong> us and help to<br />
take forward our <strong>Society</strong>.<br />

opposite. Council members are<br />
required to attend approximately<br />
seven Council meet<strong>in</strong>gs a year -<br />
none dur<strong>in</strong>g July to last week of<br />
August, as well as a number of<br />
scheduled events.<br />

Please consider stand<strong>in</strong>g for Council<br />
as we do require new members to<br />
jo<strong>in</strong> and thereby help susta<strong>in</strong> and<br />
cont<strong>in</strong>ue our programme of events<br />
and activities. It is important also to<br />
have fresh ideas and new impetus<br />
from members. Please speak to any<br />
Council member if you are <strong>in</strong>terested<br />
or want to know more, or e-mail the<br />
Hon. Secretary for further<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation. Members will be<br />
<strong>in</strong>formed of the names of all<br />
Nom<strong>in</strong>ees (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g their personal<br />
statements) together with the AGM<br />
Agenda, to be circulated at least<br />
two weeks prior to the AGM.<br />

Hon Secretary<br />
RAS CHINA <strong>in</strong> SHANGHAI<br />
OFFICERS and COUNCIL MEMBERS – not to exceed 20<br />
Elected for one year and may serve for a four-year period <strong>in</strong> the same<br />
post. Two posts may be comb<strong>in</strong>ed as necessary but only one vote.<br />
President - responsible for the general supervision of the affairs of the<br />
<strong>Society</strong>. S/He shall preside at meet<strong>in</strong>gs of the <strong>Society</strong> and of the Council,<br />
conduct the proceed<strong>in</strong>gs, give effect to resolutions passed, and ensure the<br />
Constitution and Regulations of the <strong>Society</strong> are enforced. Must have already<br />
served on Council<br />
Vice-Presidents (maximum 4) - have the duty to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> close<br />
communication with the Honorary Secretary and to support the President’s<br />
activities. They have the power to act for the President <strong>in</strong> cases of<br />
<strong>in</strong>disposition or emergency. Must have already served on Council.<br />
Honorary Treasurer - responsible for the supervision of the f<strong>in</strong>ancial records<br />
of the <strong>Society</strong> and for produc<strong>in</strong>g accounts for each Council meet<strong>in</strong>g. Yearend<br />
accounts to be made available at the AGM and circulated to all members.<br />
Honorary Secretary - the general adm<strong>in</strong>istrator of the <strong>Society</strong> and is<br />
responsible for see<strong>in</strong>g that m<strong>in</strong>utes and reports from all the <strong>Society</strong>’s<br />
meet<strong>in</strong>gs are faithfully kept, and for oversee<strong>in</strong>g matters relat<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
membership. In the absence of the President and the Vice-Presidents s/he<br />
shall, subject to the control of the Council, direct the executive details of the<br />
<strong>Society</strong>’s bus<strong>in</strong>ess.<br />
Honorary Librarian - to advise the <strong>Society</strong> on library matters and shall have<br />
general charge and custody of all books, manuscripts, pictures, memorials<br />
and other objects of learn<strong>in</strong>g, curiosity or <strong>in</strong>terest, <strong>in</strong> the possession, or likely<br />
possession, of the <strong>Society</strong>.<br />
Honorary Research and Publications Director - responsible for develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and oversee<strong>in</strong>g the production and publication of written works by Members<br />
of the <strong>Society</strong> – particularly the <strong>Ch<strong>in</strong>a</strong> Monograph Series with HKUP.<br />
Honorary Editor - responsible for compil<strong>in</strong>g and edit<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Society</strong>’s Journal.<br />
Honorary Programme Director - responsible for manag<strong>in</strong>g matters relat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to the monthly activities of the <strong>Society</strong>, and for communicat<strong>in</strong>g such matters to<br />
the <strong>Society</strong>’s membership and other relevant parties.<br />
Membership Secretary - responsible for the ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of membership<br />
records, issu<strong>in</strong>g renewal notices and membership cards and collection of<br />
membership fees. Liais<strong>in</strong>g with the Honorary Treasurer and Honorary<br />
Secretary and Distribution Co-ord<strong>in</strong>ator.<br />
Newsletter Editor - responsible for compil<strong>in</strong>g, prepar<strong>in</strong>g, edit<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
produc<strong>in</strong>g the monthly newsletter.<br />
IT Support - responsible for IT <strong>in</strong> the form of ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of the RAS website<br />
and E-mail facilities.<br />
Distribution Co-ord<strong>in</strong>ator – responsible for emails to membership and<br />
general mail<strong>in</strong>g list.<br />
Council Member - will be expected to actively participate <strong>in</strong> the general<br />
runn<strong>in</strong>g of the <strong>Society</strong> and its affairs.<br />
Non Council POSITIONS: A number of members serve as Co-ord<strong>in</strong>ators<br />
and assist with various activities. These <strong>in</strong>clude the Focus Group Coord<strong>in</strong>ators:<br />
Book Club; Film Club; and Study Group, as well as Events<br />
Management and Library Rota volunteers.
