A WINDING ROAD: A RAMBLE
WITH RICHARD THOMPSON
Saturday, May 11
5:00 pm
Cinema505
Director: Edmond Deraedt
USA, 48 min.
A WINDING ROAD focuses on the Richard Thompson Electric Trio through a
kaleidoscopic montage of images and audio. The music performed during concerts
blends with ambient sounds to offer a soundtrack that re-creates the blur of life on
tour. This impressionistic film invites the audience to interact with the poetic daily life of
legendary guitarist Richard Thompson, taking the form of a performance day; from load
in and sound check to backstage, performance, and encore, the film echoes the life of
the touring musician, highlighting the redundancy and repetitiveness of a life spent on
stage and on the road.
Q&A with Richard Thompson to follow.

Saturday, May 11
6:00 pm
Clairidge 2
Director: Brian DePalma
Producer: Paul Monash
Cast: Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving
USA, 98 min.
Founded by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and D. W. Griffith in 1919,
the legendary Hollywood film studio United Artists celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year.
To honor United Artists, The Montclair Film Festival is proud to present CARRIE, directed
by Brian De Palma, as our featured screening. Stephen King’s story of a shy teenage girl
trapped between a controlling mother and the cruelty of her peers, and CARRIE continues
to grow as one of the most important horror films of our time, ripe for reconsideration. The
film also examines female agency, and it remains a complicated tale of vengeance and
self-destruction that speaks to both a male fear of female power and a deeply affecting
expression of that power.
The Montclair Film Festival is proud to present this screening of Brian De Palma’s
CARRIE in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of United Artists.
