MIDNIGHT TRAVELER
Director: Hassan Fazili
Producers: Emelie Mahdavian, Su Kim
USA/Qatar/Canada/UK, 87 min.
Afghan filmmaker Hassan Fazili is forced to flee with his
wife and two young daughters, once the Taliban puts a
bounty on his head. So begins a perilous journey that will
span several years, and Fazili documents the entire process
as well as his family’s anxieties and their hopes, with the
only means at his disposal—three cell phones. MIDNIGHT
TRAVELER is an affecting and intimate documentary that
allows unrestricted insight into the life of a family trying
to survive deportation, a life in hiding, and the smuggling
route to Europe and how that shapes the family dynamics.

MIKE WALLACE IS HERE
Director: Avi Belkin
Producers: Rafael Marmor, John Battsek, Peggy Drexler,
Christopher Leggett, Avi Belkin
USA, 94 min.
What impact can a news reporter make in a world filled
with disinformation, ego, and global discord? For CBS
News’ Mike Wallace, the answer was to seek the truth
at all times, asking the tough questions that few others
dared to ask. For his engrossing portrait MIKE WALLACE
IS HERE, director Avi Belkin was given access to the
complete archive of Wallace’s work, and the results are
always thrilling, guiding the viewer through the news of
the 20th century with the same dogged, unflinching style
that made Wallace a household name in America and
struck fear in his subjects.

MONOS
Director: Alejandro Landes
Producers: Fernando Epstein, Alejandro Landes,
Cristina Landes, Santiago A. Zapata
Cast: Julianne Nicholson, Moisés Arias, Sofia Buenaventura,
Deiby Rueda, Karen Quintero, Laura Castrillón
Colombia/Argentina/Netherlands/Germany/Sweden/
Uruguay, 102 min.
Alejandro Landes’ MONOS is electric, a cinematic fever
dream that tells the story of the Monos, a squadron of
child soldiers caught up in a South American rebellion,
and their hostage, Dr. Sara Watson (2018 MFF award
winner Julianne Nicholson), a U.S. citizen caught in the
crossfire of the conflict. Forced to flee their remote
camp high on a mountaintop for the nearby jungle, the
group begins to fracture, the battle drawing closer, the
pressure mounting, and reality fraying at the edges. With
breathtaking sequences and a brilliant score by composer
Mica Levi, MONOS is a cinematic tour-de-force.
