Your Seating Plan Made Easy!When you ask couples to name what theyfound most stressful about weddingplanning, you will hear time and timeagain that the seating plan almost caused thewedding to not go ahead! Allocating seating toboth families, friends and work colleagues cancause even the most calm couples to get a littlestressed so here’s Team Bride’s guide to creatingyour seating plan without hassle!Do we need one? This really depends on yourvenue, quite a few will insist on it and it really doeshelp your reception run smoothly. Most guests expecta seating plan which means everyone knowsexactly where to go and generally means everyoneis seated quickly keeping everything running ontime!Get it started. Now! Most couples underestimatethe amount of time it can take so my top tip is toget the first bit of it out of the way as soon as possible.Create a ‘draft’ with your partner that youare happy with, this way you have something inplace that can be easily edited should some peopleunexpectedly RSVP yes or no.Ask your coordinator. Speak to your venue andget a room layout from them, also take their adviceon what works best for your numbers in their venue.They will be able to advise on table shape andhow many you need at each table.Keep your family close. While we know howhard it is to please everyone, generally when seatingfamily try and keep both families as close tothe top table as possible - make them feel specialby creating VIP tables adjacent to the head table.Mix it up! This is a tricky one, you want yourfriends and family to have a good time and to mixbut you don’t want to force it. Keep friendshipgroups together and consider guests who may notknow others and put them at a table where youknow they will be welcomed.Loner table. Lots of couples think it’s a great ideato seat all their singles guests together and surelythey will get along. Wrong! This can be superawkward so instead integrate your single friendsthroughout and seat them with guests you thinkthey’d get along with.Table names. Instead of numbers you can adda little bit of personality to your Table Plan bynaming each table. You could have a theme suchas ‘places you’ve visited’, ‘favourite bands’ etcThis will also remove the ‘perceived hierarchy’ ofnumbers and stop Cousin Maeve giving out aboutbeing shunned to table 20!Place cards. This is personal choice. You can eitherallocate your guests to a table and let themchoose their seat or you can allocate everyone aspecific seat at a table. One thing to remember,when allocating a seat, you need to create individualplace cards and this can be very time consumingto plan and execute with a typical Donegalwedding having over 200 guests!Guest accessibility & logistics. You many haveelderly guests where you will have to consider accessibilityinto your table planning so they can getup and about with ease.
