Welcome
to the autumn edition
of Save the Date with
Team Bride Magazine
32
Styling
the groom
It’s the second edition of Save the Date with Team
Bride and we are so proud to show it off to you!
Beyond anything, this magazine is a pure labour of
love and you wouldn’t believe the pleasure of seeing
our ideas come together in a way that we know you, our
readers are just going to love!
It seems like a blink since our first edition was launched
in January and we were so overwhelmed with the
response from everyone. I was inundated with messages
from brides and others who found the content helpful,
inspiring and above all – relevant! I posted copies of the
magazine to Irish ‘brides to be’ all over the world and
loved nothing more than sitting in a salon or hotel and
seeing someone reading our magazine!
This edition is even bigger and better than our first with
the core message remaining the same – we wanted to
bring you content that would actually help you plan your
wedding, give you information on local suppliers and
inspire you in a way that is attainable and realistic for an
Irish wedding. This edition brings you lots of expert tips,
industry knowledge, planning advice, fashion, fun and
so much more!
The highlight of this issue had to be working on the
styled photoshoot. I was so lucky to have an amazing
team to work with and who all where just as passionate
about the concept as I was and the result was way beyond
what I could have imagined.
Working on this magazine is a proper pinch me moment
and I’m very lucky to work alongside an amazingly
talented team who help make it something that I will
be proud of forever. I hope you love the magazine as
much as I do and look forward to hearing what everyone
thinks!
Happy planning!

Set in the rolling hills of
Inishowen, in Burt, in Co
Donegal, An Grianan Hotel
is renowned for their warm,
Irish welcome and friendly staff,
treating guests to only the highest
standards in customer service
excellence.
A multi award-winning wedding
venue, An Grianan is perfectly
suited to accommodate your
wedding celebration. Laced with
elegance and oozing quality and
class, the hotel is posed to make the
memorable day of your life truly
special.
The lady charged with ensuring
every couple’s big day runs
smoothly is award winning Irish
Wedding Journal, Wedding
Coordinator of the Year, Deirdre
Hamill. At the same ceremony
in Dublin, An Grianan was also
placed in the top 5 Wedding Venues
in Ireland and in Ulster competing
against 5* resort hotel, North and
South - quite an accolade for a
family owned hotel in Burt.
From the minute you enter the hotel
to the minute your leave, their aim
is to treat you and your guests like
royalty and make sure that’s it’s the
best day of your lives.
Their unique circular Tuatha
De Danann Suite is their main
function room and can host up to
326 guests. Its circular shape gains
its inspiration from the nearby
Ring Fort (Grainan of Aileach),
resting on the hill shadowing the
hotel - a beautiful feature that
stands An Grianan Hotel apart
from the competition and provides
the perfect backdrop for dramatic
wedding photos.
The Tuatha De Danann suite is
tastefully furnished and has a large
circular dome which allows the sun
to flood in and bathe the room in a
‘natural warm glow.’
The hotel prides itself in hosting
only one wedding per day whether
it’s a church, civil or same-sex
wedding. This is a very important
factor, reassuring couples that they
are our sole concern on their special
day and gives them confidence in
us. An Grianan considers itself a
‘one-stop’ package, both internally
and externally.
Their grounds with their plants and
foliage have grown over the years
and are now fully matured. At the
rear of the hotel their beer garden
is very popular especially during
those balmy evenings.
Their stained-glass window
in their old church is a must for all
wedding photographers.
From medieval to elegant and
ultra-modern, An Grianan
has a backdrop to suit
every mood.
An Grianan has
43 bedrooms,
including the bridal
suite and 2 executive suites
each beautifully decorated with
classic contemporary furnishing
and all modern conveniences
to ensure every guest’s stay is
luxurious and comfortable.

Hi everyone,
I’m Yasmin otherwise
known as Fashion Blogger,
SnazzyYazi and the
eternal bridesmaid! By
next Summer I will have
been bridesmaid none
other than five times, so I
count myself as a bit of an
expert when it comes to all things bridesmaid
related – especially that all important dress!
Weddings are an expensive business and it
can be a nightmare trying to kit
out all your besties so I’m going to
1
give you a little high street inspiration
that won’t break the bank
and will keep the style stakes
high!
1. Maya Bridesmaid Dress
From Asos £90
ASOS have really changed the game for
occasion wear and bridesmaid dresses.
Their own range is so affordable and the
best thing about this dress is that it also
comes in petite, tall and maternity so will
fit all!
2. Natasha Twist Me Tie
Me Bridesmaid Dress
Monsoon £99
Monsoon have been the front runner of
bridesmaid dresses
on the high street for
a long time. They
have now introduced
a multi-way dress
into their collection.
This has been a
massive trend this
year for bridesmaid
dresses, multiway
dresses where each
bridesmaid can wear
the dress a different
way to each other.
4
3. Jenny Packham 3
Wine Watercolour
Print ‘Ella’ Fit and
Flare Shift Dress
£99
Jenny Packham is renowned
for her wedding dresses and has
even dressed Kate Middleton!
You can buy her dresses in
Debenhams at a more affordable
price range. This gorgeous
floral dress comes in at under
£100 and is perfect for anyone
who is looking for
their bridesmaids to
stand out.
4. Chi Chi
Delaney
Dress
£80.00
We know that satin
has been a massive
trend since 2018 on
the high street, so what
better material for a trend
conscious Bride. The Chi
Chi London dresses also
come in petite, curve and
maternity.
5. Satin Wrap
Front Jumpsuit,
Reiss £195
A bridesmaid in a
jumpsuit? Yes. If you are a
bride who doesn’t want their bridesmaids
to look like typical “bridesmaids”
this is the look for you. I love the colour
of this Reiss Jumpsuit and the great thing about
this is, your bridesmaids will get a wear out of
their outfit again.
6. Grace Bardot Midi Dress,
Monsoon £295
Another trend that has become increasingly
popular is having your bridesmaids in ivory.
Once a wedding faux pas, I personally think it
looks stunning. Especially when the bridesmaid
dresses are minimalistic like this Monsoon
bardot dress, to keep attention on the bride.

Wedding trends for 2020
When you see it, remember you
heard it here first!
Artificial Flowers
From floral hoops, bouquets and even
decorative arches lots of savvy couples
are choosing to go artificial with their
wedding flowers. We’ve come a long way
since carnation buttonholes and the quality
available in silk flowers means that
whether you choose to DIY your flowers
or hire a professional, artificial flowers
can look just as wow as the real thing!
Alternative Venues
Remember when everyone got married at
the local Church and then had their reception
in a choice of 3 hotels? Well those
days are long gone with couples choosing
to put their own style on the big day and
venues such as country houses, rustic
barns and galleries being an increasingly
popular choice.
Gold. Everywhere!
We saw a return to gold tones last year with
dresses and gold has started to creep in to
the décor side of things in 2019 but next
year we will see an explosion of gold! With
everything from cutlery to welcome signs
getting the golden touch you will see this
theme continue to grow but remember keep
it elegant – too much and you run the risk
of it turning tacky!

Expert Advice:
Choosing your
Ceremony Music
with Kelli McGrory Music
The most common question
asked in relation to choosing
ceremony music is
“where do I start?”
It’s important to ensure your
chosen musician/singer has an
extensive repertoire from which
to choose. You’d be surprised at
how many beautiful song s/hymns
you’d forget about.
As a professional I try to make it
as easy as possible for couples by
sending them my repertoire under
headings such as ‘Entrance’,
‘Signing of Register’, etc. Under
each heading is a list of possible
music to be sung/played at that
particular part of the ceremony,
e.g. Entrance: Canon in D, She
Moved Through The Fair (in Irish
or English), Ave Maria, You By
My Side, etc.
It’s essential for your chosen
musician to take requests from
couples as the ceremony is the
most important part of the day
and hearing a particular song/
hymn can instantly transport you
back to that special moment. If
you both ‘have a song’, mention
this when enquiring.
There are certain parts of the
ceremony where only short pieces
of music are required i.e. the
lighting of candles. My most requested
pieces here are ‘Inis Óirr’
or the ‘Braveheart Theme’ tune
which are lovely played on the
low whistle or fiddle with piano
accompaniment.
It is also imperative that you
discuss your chosen music with
your celebrant/minister/registrar
as there may be restrictions. You
don’t want to have your dream
entrance choice chosen only to be
told that it’s not allowed!
There are so many wonderfully
talented musicians in the North
West. Do your research, ask
questions and enjoy choosing the
soundtrack to your special day.

Team Brides Top Tips to your
perfect Wedding Day glow!
Fake tan may be one of the greatest inventions ever, Fact! If
you’re anything like me and have typically Irish pale to the
point of translucent skin, then you will be as grateful for
a good fake tan too. Your wedding day tan is a little more
important than the usual ‘Tan Thursday’ application and
will ideally involve the help of a professional. Even the best
tans last a little better with some preparation and here’s
everything you need to know to get that perfect glow...
Have a practice run! Even if you’re a
self-tanning expert I highly recommend
that you have a tan-trial ahead of the big
day. You hen party is the perfect time to
get a practice spray tan
Also, let your makeup artist know that
you’re having a spray tan so they know
what foundation will suit best
Two days ahead of your wedding is the
perfect time to get your spray tan
Make sure to get all other beauty treatments
(waxing, tinting, nails etc) at least 2
days prior to your Spray-Tan
Preparation is key! In the weeks leading
up to your wedding its important that your
skin is kept moisturised, hydrated and
exfoliated. Keep moisturising every day
to allow your tan to fade evenly and last
longer
Give yourself a break from tanning
products for at least 2 weeks before the
wedding.
Make sure to wear loose clothing to your
tanning appointment and avoid rain at all
costs!
Your tanner should offer you moisturiser
as a barrier for your hands, elbows and
knees. If they don’t then ask for it
For your honeymoon choose a sun cream
that doesn’t contain oil. P20 is a great
brand that protects well and isalso kind to
your tan
Don’t scrub your tan until you’re ready
to remove it all as this will result in an
uneven and patchy fade
Tanning tip: Use talcum powder to stop
sweating and transferring tan to your dress
Our favourite Bridal Spray Tans
Bellamianta - quick drying, transfer and water resistant with a golden olive tone.
B Perfect- a great all-rounder, available in two shades without the usual biscuit smell
Dripping Gold – a new one to the market but a must for any brides
who want a deep bronzed look for their big day
Vita Liberata – a beautiful sun-kissed glow that fades evenly and suits most skin tones
He-Shi – a natural glow that responds to your natural skin tone to give
a tan that looks natural and long lasting

I
Being a bridesmaid is such a big honour and so much fun. But
depending on the couple you’re doing it for, and the kind of
wedding they’re having, it can also be a lot of hard work. Most of
the job though, is just about showing up, and showing an interest! Lots of
bridesmaids ask us what they should be doing to help the couple throughout
the wedding planning, or what jobs the bridesmaids need to do on the day.
We’ve rounded up the ultimate list of bridesmaid duties - while you won’t
be required to do everything on the list (we hope!) do your share, you’re
on your way to securing your status as the best bridesmaid ever!

• Make sure the prep room doesn’t get too hot or crowded, it should be a
fun, calm space for the bride
• Help the bride into her dress, and assist with shoes and jewellery
Duties on the Wedding Day

lawns, mature trees and fine views across to
Inch Island ensures the wedding photography
will provide the most beautiful and
dramatic pictures of your big day.
The Terrace
The latest addition to the grounds, ‘The
Terrace’, has proven hugely popular for the
venue since its arrival last summer. An outdoor
seating area, The Terrace is the perfect
setting for guests to mingle
during drinks receptions, and with more
couples opting for al fresco nuptials, The
Terrace can also cater for small outdoor
wedding ceremonies. Larger ceremonies
may be held outdoors within a marquee
seating area amongst the arching trees and
immaculate gardens, or the conservatory-style
Willow Room affords the same
spectacular view from the comfort of
indoors.
Celebrations for up to 160 guests are held
in the beautifully appointed dining space
overlooking the Lough Swilly, where
guests can enjoy the breath-taking views
right up until the sun sets over Inch Island.
Marquee Package
For larger weddings up to 200 guests,
a Marquee Package is available for extra
dining space and an additional bar area in
the courtyard. The intimate wedding setup
at the country house means that guests still
experience top quality, restaurant style food
from highly trained, attentive staff.
The in-house wedding team are always on
hand to ensure a smooth planning process
from the initial meeting right through to
the wedding date, ensuring all details and
requests are adhered to.
Award Winning Venue
It’s no wonder The Red Door Country
House has been awarded a string of accreditations,
from Weddings Online ‘Restaurant
Venue of the Year’ for four years running,
to an esteemed AA Rosette award for
culinary excellence. If you are looking
for a wedding venue that incorporates its
magnificent setting into every moment of
the wedding day, look no further than The
Red Door Country House along the Wild
Atlantic Way.

Your Seating Plan Made Easy!
When you ask couples to name what they
found most stressful about wedding
planning, you will hear time and time
again that the seating plan almost caused the
wedding to not go ahead! Allocating seating to
both families, friends and work colleagues can
cause even the most calm couples to get a little
stressed so here’s Team Bride’s guide to creating
your seating plan without hassle!
Do we need one? This really depends on your
venue, quite a few will insist on it and it really does
help your reception run smoothly. Most guests expect
a seating plan which means everyone knows
exactly where to go and generally means everyone
is seated quickly keeping everything running on
time!
Get it started. Now! Most couples underestimate
the amount of time it can take so my top tip is to
get the first bit of it out of the way as soon as possible.
Create a ‘draft’ with your partner that you
are happy with, this way you have something in
place that can be easily edited should some people
unexpectedly RSVP yes or no.
Ask your coordinator. Speak to your venue and
get a room layout from them, also take their advice
on what works best for your numbers in their venue.
They will be able to advise on table shape and
how many you need at each table.
Keep your family close. While we know how
hard it is to please everyone, generally when seating
family try and keep both families as close to
the top table as possible - make them feel special
by creating VIP tables adjacent to the head table.
Mix it up! This is a tricky one, you want your
friends and family to have a good time and to mix
but you don’t want to force it. Keep friendship
groups together and consider guests who may not
know others and put them at a table where you
know they will be welcomed.
Loner table. Lots of couples think it’s a great idea
to seat all their singles guests together and surely
they will get along. Wrong! This can be super
awkward so instead integrate your single friends
throughout and seat them with guests you think
they’d get along with.
Table names. Instead of numbers you can add
a little bit of personality to your Table Plan by
naming each table. You could have a theme such
as ‘places you’ve visited’, ‘favourite bands’ etc
This will also remove the ‘perceived hierarchy’ of
numbers and stop Cousin Maeve giving out about
being shunned to table 20!
Place cards. This is personal choice. You can either
allocate your guests to a table and let them
choose their seat or you can allocate everyone a
specific seat at a table. One thing to remember,
when allocating a seat, you need to create individual
place cards and this can be very time consuming
to plan and execute with a typical Donegal
wedding having over 200 guests!
Guest accessibility & logistics. You many have
elderly guests where you will have to consider accessibility
into your table planning so they can get
up and about with ease. You may also have a kids
table, or families with little ones, in this case some
couples place these guests in an area that is also
easily accessed e.g. for kids to get to the bathroom
or if they need some time out.

The Grooms Glossary:
Alright, guys. It’s almost time for the big
day! In the months and weeks leading up
to the wedding, it may feel like the bride
gets all the attention, but this celebration is just
as much about you. That’s why you need to be
prepared.
• Give yourself some alone time.
• Have a little time entirely on your own
before the ceremony starts. Your wedding day
is going to be spent with every close friend and
relative. You’ll be smiling for pictures all day
and really won’t get any time for yourself. Even
if you have to wake up early, take the time to
be alone and really soak in the day and what is
about to happen. You’re going to be a husband!
It’s a huge deal!
• Get ready to smile. Your mouth is going to
hurt from smiling so much! Keep in mind that
you are part of the main attraction of the day
and as well as your photographer asking you to
pose for photos, your friends and family will
want some too.
• Eat before you forget. If there’s one essential
piece for any groom, it’s to eat whenever you
get the chance to. You’ll be so busy running
around and doing little things to get ready, and
you’ll completely forget to eat anything that
day. Make sure your best man is watching out
for you and keeps you hydrated and eating.
• Follow the plan. You’ve been planning for
months, and now is the time to execute. Try to
stick to the game plan you came up with. Now
is not the time to try any last minute ideas as
far as wedding planning goes, the last thing you
would want is for your spouse to be surprised
by something that was not planned ahead of
time.
• Get your rest. Try to get some rest the night
before. It sounds simple enough, but you don’t
realise how busy the day is going to be. Try not
to go too crazy the night before so you’ll be
ready on the morning of the big day.

Suits you! Styling tips to make that suit look super sharp...
• Show half an inch of your shirt cuff peeping
down beyond the sleeve, if in doubt it should be
no more than the width of you little finger.
• When closing your waistcoat buttons AL-
WAYS leave the bottom button open.
• The bottom tip of your tie should fall in line
with your belly button.
• If you wear a tie bar make sure it’s in line with
the breast pocket on your jacket.
• Always remember BROWN shoes BROWN
belt or BLACK shoes BLACK belt, TAN shoes
TAN belt etc etc…
• There are many ways to wear a pocket square
but it looks best when it’s worn ruffled and
unstructured as opposed to folded and placed in
the breast pocket.
• Always wear a white shirt for your wedding
day, a white shirt is a blank canvas and that
allows the neck wear and suit to do the talking.
• Within the wedding party all the guys should
be wearing the same shoes to promote a ‘uniform’
look, nothing worse than sloppy photos
with all the guys wearing different shoes.
• A great idea is for the guys to wear bright,
colourful, funky socks. It makes for a fantastic
photo opportunity.
• Hands out of pockets, and for that matter, keep
your trouser pockets empty, nothing worse than
bulging pockets and trousers will lose their
shape.
Have a little time entirely on
your own before the ceremony
starts. Your wedding day is
going to be spent with every
close friend and relative.
You’ll be smiling for pictures
all day and really won’t get
any time for yourself.
Grooms Speech
Essentials...
The grooms speech is expected to be more
serious than the best man’s speech, so it can
be an easier speech to prepare. If you feel
a little less nervous about giving your speech, remember
that your wedding guests are your friends
and family and they are all looking forward to
hearing you speak. In your speech, you can:
• Thank the bride for marrying you
• Thank the bride’s parents for the wedding and
for the great job they have done in raising their
daughter
• Thank your parents for all they have done for
you
• Say something humorous about how you met
• Thank your best man and ushers
• Share your thoughts about your bride and your
future together.
• Wear your heart on your sleeve, be honest and
be yourself!

Getting Married in Ireland
Legal Requirements
We have a full guide to all the
legal requirements, but for those
not yet up to speed, basically in
order to get married in Ireland, you have
to notify the HSE of your intention to marry
at least three months in advance of your
actual wedding.
This applies whether you’re getting
married in a church, at your venue or in
the registry office. There is often a long
waiting list, so it’s recommended you get
in touch with your local registry office four
to six months in advance to make sure you
can get an appointment in time - there’s no
such thing as too early!
What documents do we need for our
intention to marry appointment in Ireland?
In advance of the intention to marry
appointment, you need to gather various
pieces of paperwork. If you’re both Irish
and this is your first marriage, none of it is
too taxing to source - you need your passports
and colour photocopies of them, your
original (or certified) birth certificates (and
copies), proof of address (and copies), and
you need to know your PPS numbers.
Find out more at www.hse.ie
• Both of you must attend to give
notice and you will need to have the
following with you – Passport, PPS
Number, Long Birth Cert, Divorce Decree
or Death Cert where applicable.
• If either of you are not an Irish citizen,
you need an Apostille Sta mp and
a Letter of Freedom may be required.
(find out more about that at www.hse.
ie).
• The registrar will also require the
following info:
~ Decision on a civil or religious ceremony.
~ Intended date and location of the ceremony.
~ Details of the proposed solemniser of the marriage.
~ Names and dates of birth of two proposed witnesses.
~ This info needs to be submitted on a form downloaded from www.hse.ie.
• A Fee of €200 is payable and you then sign a declaration to say that there’s no lawful reason
why you can’t get married.
• If there are no lawful impediments you will be issued with your Marriage Registration Form.
Keep this safe! You need to bring this with you on your wedding day as you will both sign it along
with your solemniser. Following the ceremony, you then need to return the signed form to the registrar’s
office within 30 days. Your marriage will then be legal, and you can purchase a Marriage
Certificate for €20 from any Civil Registration Office.

When the Wedding Planner
Alexandra Manning @ The Wedding Experience
From the moment the ring was placed on my
finger the messages started rolling in saying
things like “oooh you’re going to have the
worlds most amazing wedding”. No pressure!
Being a wedding planner
I did start to feel a little
bit concerned about
how my wedding would be
perceived. Would clients
look at my wedding and
think “oh that’s not for me”,
would friends question my
career choice if I didn’t do it
“just right”. But the thing is,
everyones wedding is different,
and everyones style and taste is
different.
I was never going to have a
traditional wedding, I would
have eloped except it would
have been bad for business!
“The Irish wedding planner
who didn’t get married in
Ireland”.
So instead in August 2018
myself and my then fiancé
decided we would get married
a few months later on 30th
December 2018, when we
knew our families would be
around for Christmas and off
work. The most important
thing to us was to have our
parents, siblings, and closest
friends with us for our day. Yes
that is a short time frame to
plan a wedding but I do love a
challenge.
So we recreated our first
date! We got married in the
venue where we first met,
brought everyone on a little
mini pub crawl that we did on
our first date, but instead of
ending the night with a bag of
chips, we brought them to the
most beautiful boutique hotel.
In total there was 35 of us. I always
wanted my wedding to be
in this hotel where I’m from in
Cork, but the room only holds
38 people so I never thought
it would be possible, when we
decided to have a small guest
list I couldn’t believe my luck.
It was meant to be!

Personally I would have been way too anxious
and nervous doing the whole ceremony part in
front of too many people, I really wanted it to
be very intimate. So we decided to have our big
party with extended friends and family the next
day for New Year’s Eve instead.
Another big reason behind doing it small was
because I really didn’t want to go to work on
my wedding day, which inevitably would have
happened if we had a lot going on with loads of
people to host.
I could give plenty of advice to couples planning
their weddings but the one thing I’d say is
to please please please, do what is right for you
and your partner.
Yes it might cause a few eyerolls from the
aunt you see once a year, and questioning from
your parents neighbour but at the end of the
day, how much of a role will they play in your
life and marriage? If they are integral to your
daily life then of course they will be on the
guest list, if not and if they truly recognised
that your wedding is about you and not them
then they will wish you well and support you.
I always say plan for your future and not your
past, while I’m sure your better half or parents
would like to invite everyone they ever met in
school, college, work, that one time in the local
pub, along to the wedding, well when was the
last time you really spent anytime with those
people, and do you actually know them?
So, you do you! You won’t regret it, I promise
you!

KEEP CALM AND MARRY ON
‘I do, do I?’, was the title of the book that Carrie Bradshaw
wrote after she married the enigmatic ‘Mr Big’.
Like Carrie, we spend our lives scanning the streets for our Mr Big,
only to find that when we’ve finally found him, and squealed “yes”
when he gets down on one knee, that reality kicks in.
The reality of planning a
wedding…
Reality comes in the form of stress, anxiety
and panic. And we begin to question it all:
‘I do, do I?’.
Of course you do. But sometimes the
overwhelming list of things to plan and
organise for our ‘big’ day can cause a stress
response in our bodies, which means that
our judgement can become clouded, and
we become less preoccupied with questions
about the lace on our dress, and more concerned
with questions about our relationships,
laced with doubt.
This is completely normal because when
under the duress of stress, our thoughts
are influenced by a biochemical reaction
from the stress response in our bodies. So
we’re running on adrenaline and cortisol,
which can lead to unhelpful and anxiety provoking
thoughts and those intricate trimmings
of doubt. But instead of taking the self-care we
need, we add to the building stress by striving
for perfection. But perfection does not exist. It’s
a metaphysical ideology, a notion, a destination
which does not exist. So stop yourself from trying
to get there.
Getting stressed over planning your wedding can
actually make it the worst experience of your life
instead of the best.
Here are a few self-care tips for
mindful wedding planning
● Are you planning a wedding based on what
you see on Pinterest and social media or a
wedding that is a true reflection of your eclectic
taste? Do you really need that doughnut stand?
And is it really necessary to remind everyone of
your new surname by having it strewn on every
surface?
● Set yourself a realistic budget. Financial stress
will ruin the joy of your planning experience.
So stay within your means. Be realistic. And get
crafty and thrifty.
● Do you even know 250 people? I know it’s
a big day, but it’s your big day, nobody else’s.
I’m quite sure that people can express how
beautiful you were by looking at your
photos on facebook without having to
invite them.
● Since it’s yours
and your husbandto-be’s
big day, do
not feel obliged to
invite the wife of
the fella you work
with because “it’s
nice”. If you don’t
know the person,
and don’t speak
to them at least
once a week, then
don’t invite them.
They are not part
of your life so
why should they
be part of the most
significant day of
your life.
Carrie and Mr Big
● Take a break
and detach
from wedding
planning. Meditate, do Yoga, get a massage
to release the tension, meet with a recently
divorced friend who doesn’t want to hear
about weddings. Separate yourself from the
stressors for a while.
● Work on being O.K with not feeling in
control. Anxiety comes from not feeling like
we’re in control, and then we panic. Nobody
ever really has their life under control, and if
they look like they do, they’re just great
actors. Remind yourself
of the reason for
all this planning
and bring yourself
back to the fact that
you’re vowing to
be with someone
in sickness and in
health. So don’t lose
your health to the
sickness of stress.
● Ask for help to plan. You do not have to do it
all yourself. Share your vision with your friends
and family members, and venue staff. You can
all work together to bring it to life, and it’ll be a
great way to bond. Delegate.

anxious get in touch with me on

Your Wedding entertainment is one of the biggest parts of your big day. Every wedding you go to as a guest you really notice:
1. The Venue 2. The Food 3. The Music!
When it comes to planning your wedding, you want everything to be perfect. You’ve dreamed of this day for your whole life
and don’t want to leave anything to chance. While everyone understands the importance of picking the right wedding venue
an area where many couples feel less confident is in choosing the right entertainment for the wedding day.
It’s understandable – it’s possibly the only time a couple will have to book a band or entertainer (and maybe the last!)
Fortunately, help is at hand...we’ve put together a bunch of handy hints to help you negotiate the wedding entertainment
booking process.
1. Book Early
As with booking your wedding venue, it’s crucial to book your wedding
entertainment as early as you can. The best wedding bands get booked
up for popular dates anything up to two years in advance. Ensure you
get the widest selection of wedding bands by beating the rush and
organising your wedding entertainment as soon as you have your venue
sorted.
2. Make sure you have entertainment for
each part of the day
The main wedding entertainment booking tends to be a band & DJ
package for the evening reception (more on which is in the next section),
but it’s important to choose the right entertainment for the other
stages of your day, including the ceremony itself, the afternoon drinks
reception and the wedding banquet.
Daytime wedding entertainment ideas are mood-setting musicians like
string quartets and acoustic guitar/vocal duos or alternative acts to keep
your guests occupied like magicians and caricaturists or Vegas Casino
tables. You’ve also got the option of foregoing live entertainment during
the day and putting together a playlist of laid-back tunes.
3. Choosing a wedding reception band –
the questions you need to ask yourself
The band you choose to perform at your reception is a matter of personal
taste, but if you’re lost as to where to begin, asking yourself the
following questions will help you to narrow down your selection.
What is my preferred genre of music?
The biggest thing is to book a wedding band that portrays your personality
as a couple. It’s your day, so go for an act that plays the type
of music that makes you want to get up and dance. Whatever you’re
into, there’s sure to be a band out there for you. If you’re struggling
to find the ideal band, then get in touch with an entertainment agency
like Entertainment Nation and they’ll do our best to find you the band
you’re looking for.
Will my guests like my chosen genre of band?
As well as enjoying the music yourself, your guests need to enjoy it
too. Think about who will be attending your evening reception and
what styles of music might appeal to them to avoid the dreaded empty
56 | SAVE THE DATE with Teambride.ie
floor! It’s useful to note that most of us professional wedding
bands, even those who specialise in a particular genre, include a
variety of songs with broad appeal to cater to the diverse ages and
tastes of a wedding audience.
Do I need to book a band to match my theme?
Themed weddings are a growing trend! If you’re organising a
vintage wedding, for example, it might be more appropriate to
book a vintage-themed wedding band rather than a modern pop
band or you might want a swing or motown band to go with a
certain theme.
Will my band have far to travel?
If you’re based in Donegal and fall in love with a band from
Cork, you’re going to struggle to secure them for your wedding.
Or if you do, you will be paying a premium to get them travelling
the length of the country. Plus think of the travel time for your
band as how would you feel about being the life of a party after
travelling 4-6 hours to get there. Whilst most wedding bands are
willing to travel, the further they have to drive, the more you will
have to pay, and some journeys are just not feasible at all. Keep
location in mind when looking for your live band and avoid the
disappointment of falling for a band who are unable to travel to
your venue.
4. Talk with your venue
Make sure to discuss your wedding entertainment plans with your
planner at your venue. They will have seen and dealt with all the
top bands and if there was any bands you need to steer clear of, I
am sure they would let you know.
5. Do some research!
The word “research” may sound dry and scientific, but this is the
fun bit! Make a pot of tea, sit back with your husband or wife
to be, and check out some of the great bands that are around the
northwest of Ireland! You can search Facebook various wedding
planning websites and find bands in your preferred genre and
style and get an idea of whether they’re the band for you thanks to
promo videos, demo tracks and detailed biographies packed with
useful information on the band, their history and what makes them
unique.
If you can, try to watch your band live before you book. Unfortunately,
this is rarely possible as professional function bands tend to
specialise in private events that aren’t open to the public.
** Ask your wedding band these questions**
Once you’ve picked the band you want to perform at your wedding
reception, you’ll need to establish a few facts to make sure
everything runs smoothly. If working with a well established wedding
band, most of these questions will come up naturally during
the booking process or in the “4-week call” (which is where the
band gets in touch 4 weeks prior to your wedding to make all the
final preparations), but it’s worth keeping them in mind.
1. What time will you get to my venue and how long will it take
for you to set up and sound check?
Establishing what time the band will arrive means you can relax
and enjoy yourself on the day itself, safe in the knowledge that
everything is in hand. It also means you can plan around when the
band will be setting up to minimise any disruption for your guests.
For us in Red Alert we work off the timings that we get from the
venue on the meal service and will arrive 1 hour before we get
access to the room, allowing approximately 1.5-2 hours for the
meal service.
2. What is the duration of your performance?
When it comes to duration of performance, every band is different.
The standard offerings are three 40 minute sets or two 60 minute
sets of live music, and you’re free to choose which suits your
occasion the best.
3. Do I need to hire a separate DJ?
You don’t want your guests stood around on the dance floor
looking at each other in awkward silences between and after sets of
music from your live band. Most bands offer a DJ service to keep
the party going while they’re finished their set on stage, but it’s
important to make sure this service is included.
4. Do you hold public liability insurance?
Some venues will ask for proof that any acts you book hold public
liability insurance. If proof is required, your act should provide
certificates on request. Any professional wedding band will hold
this and it will not be an issue.
5. Will you learn and perform my first dance?
What could be better than a unique rendition of your special song
from a live band for your first dance? Most wedding bands are
happy to learn your first dance as standard, but it’s always best to
check, especially if the song you want your band to learn deviates
drastically from their usual repertoire. Talk to the band about it and
if they think the song is not going to sound good played live by the
band it may be better played via MP3 of the original track!
What do I need to provide for the band?
You don’t need to give your band free rein at the bar, but a band
that’s been fed and watered is a happy band with the energy to give
their best during their performance.
Again this is not an expectation of any band, they would not (or
should not) expect drinks or food on the night. Plus, any professional
wedding band really shouldn’t be drinking on the job
anyway! Your band will be happy (ecstatic even!) to get access to
the evening buffet!

Budget Busting Tips
with Wedding Planner Alexandra Manning
(The Wedding Experience)
Don’t sweat the small stuff
A few days before the wedding myself and my husband wanted to gather a few
bits to gift our bridal party with, we got the girls earrings, and the lads pocket
watches. But we also thought, we should get colourful socks for all the brothers,
groomsmen, and the dads. Socks are expensive! We wanted to get them nice
ones and by the end it would have cost us something like €150!
In the end we went for a cheaper option and do you think anyone remembers
the bloody socks? Nope!
Moral of the story, you might think that all of the teeny tiny details are really important
but they end up costing a lot when its all added up and that’s money you
could spend on the honeymoon, or a weekend away soon after the wedding!
Don’t be afraid to say no!
My inbox was filled with links to absolutely gorgeous Jimmy Choos, and
other designer or high-end shoes that my mum was just so excited to be
looking at for me for the wedding. The thing is, I’m not much of a heel
person, and when I do wear them you can be sure they hurt and come off
after a few hours anyway. That and we had just bought a house so everything
was being compared to something else, like those sparkly Jimmy Choos
were the price of our dishwasher!!! So I respectfully sent a firm no to those
suggestions and picked up a baby blue suede court shoe in Dunnes for €20!
Space out your payments
Once you have everything booked and deposits paid, make a plan of all your
final instalments and put it against your income in the months leading up to
the wedding. If you can make a plan with your suppliers to pay off a bit each
month then it makes things a little easier.
Before the wedding we put some money into fixing my engagement ring
which is an heirloom, it was more important to me than a wedding band
(for my finger, not the music on the night!) and so instead of being under
pressure to also spend a fortune on a wedding band there and then, I picked up
a cute little ring from Pandora that we used for the ceremony and in time I’ll
pick up a wedding ring that I actually like! Nothing seems to sit well with my
engagement ring so I’m not sure if I actually will in the end! And that’s
ok too!
Have the wedding you can afford
Overall, my advice is to do what’s right for you as a couple and try not to
get caught up in the opinions and expectations of others. Before you begin
booking anything, sit down and work out a budget you can afford then book
within that budget.
Just because your cousin Linda spent thousands on lots of ‘extras’ doesn’t
mean you have to do the same, have the wedding you want and can afford.
The last thing you want is to start into married life in debt.

Your Fad Diet
Have you noticed how people jump on board with
a popular fad diet, lose 5, 10 or even 20 pounds…
only to gain it all back and then some.
Why does this happen? It’s actually a simple
concept, and once you understand it you will be
forever saved from the tortures of yo-yo dieting.
with Personal Trainer
JOE RYAN
Fad diets saddle you with unsustainable
calorie restrictions and some
even cut out entire food groups
just to produce that short lived drop in
weight—a process that is actually harmful
to your long term metabolism. Fad diets
also ignore one vital component to shaping
up: EXERCISE!
You see, most fad diets operate on one age
old premise: cut calories, cut calories, cut
calories. By restricting the type and amount
of food consumed the fad dieter usually
sees an immediate drop in weight. If only it
stopped there…
But it doesn’t stop there. Life continues,
and the fad dieter returns to their pre-diet
eating habits—with one major difference
in their body due to the sudden drop in
pounds. Their calorie requirements have
gotten smaller.
In practical terms this means that the
dieter will begin gaining weight even
though they are eating their normal pre-diet
portions. And since exercise hasn’t become
a part of their routine, the unneeded calories
will result in pounds gained. So what’s
a dieter to do? Find a brand new diet to
follow—right? Wrong.
There is a way to drop pounds and firm
your body, but you won’t read about it in
the next diet book or hear it on the news.
The solution to your fad dieting nightmare
is a lifestyle change.
What is a lifestyle change? To change
your lifestyle means to replace unhealthy
habits with healthy ones, and to do so
consistently. It isn’t something you do for
a week or two, only to revert back your old
ways—a lifestyle change redefines who
you are.
I know this is starting to sound like some
heavy stuff but hear me out. Changing your
lifestyle from one that is unhealthy to one
that is healthy will be the best thing that
you ever do for yourself. Trust me, I help
people like you make this change every day
with amazing results.
Fact: The shape of your body is the direct
result of your current lifestyle.
So how do I change my lifestyle? That is
a great question, and the answer is actually
easier than you might think.
Most people who are unhappy with their
bodies are really only holding on to a few
bad habits. Once these destructive habits
are identified and then replaced with
healthy habits their body naturally transforms
from one that they loathe to one that
they are proud of.
In other words, to get the body that you
want simply determine your unhealthy
habits and replace them with healthy ones.
Here are the most prevalent unhealthy
habits:
The habit of inactivity. Failing to exercise
on a consistent basis is one of the most
destructive obstacles for your health and
figure. (The key word here is consistent. If
you aren’t exercising at least 3-4 times each
week then you own this habit.)
The habit of overeating. Consuming calories
in excess of your daily calorie needs is
one of the main reasons that more adults are
overweight today than ever before.
The habit of empty calories. Filling your
diet with foods that hold little to no nutritional
value is a great way to expand your
waist. (Hint: if a food item is made up of
mainly sugar and/or fat consider it ‘empty’
calories.)
You can lose weight and improve both
your appearance and your health.
You can look and feel great.
You can transform yourself into the person
that you’ve always wanted to be.
Don’t let another day go by that leaves
you a slave to unhealthy habits. Take action
now!

Relaxing (Our Wrinkles!)
Before the Big Day
We all want to look our best on our big day, and beyond of course! Having our skin in healthy
condition gives us confidence, and allows for a more flawless makeup application for the
wedding day photos. Have you ever wondered about Medical Aesthetic treatments but didn’t
know quite where to start on your quest for accurate information?
So what do I need?
At Fitzgerald Private Clinic we are steadfast in our belief that most people do not need
injections to relax wrinkles or add volume. A carefully advised skincare routine should
be the most important element of our beauty routines.
However, when carried out by fully-registered doctors, with vast varied experience
and advanced medical aesthetic training, these treatments can give soft, subtle and
natural results in the safest possible way.
We choose the ‘less is more’ approach and take time at our detailed consultations to
discuss what, if any, treatments might suit your particular concerns best.
Timing
It’s important to explore options as early as
possible, ideally at least six months before
the big event so there’s plenty of time to try
out a temporary treatment. You will likely
have enough on the to-do list in the weeks
leading up to your wedding without worrying
about how your treatment may turn out.
Wrinkle-Relaxing
One of the most common concerns we see in
our clinic for brides-to-be is the presence of
prominent frown or ‘11’ lines that they feel
gives them an angry or tired appearance.
Treating this area with tiny amounts of anti-wrinkle
injections (Botox®) can soften this
appearance and result in a more rested and
refreshed look, without looking fake or frozen.
The consultation may take some time
so we can decide together on the best plan
for you, but the injections themselves take
only minutes and are quite comfortable.
Botox® and other anti-wrinkle treatments
take 1-2 weeks to take full effect, and last
Advice
approximately 3-4 months. We would recommend
the treatment is timed 4-6 weeks
before your date to allow time for it to settle
and look as natural as possible. This also
allows time to arrange reviews as needed so
you have the optimum result.
Along with other medical indications, Botox®
injections can also be used to reduce
overactive sweating in the armpits (axillary
hyperhidrosis). This takes 30 minutes to
perform, starts its effect within days, and
lasts approximately 6 months.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are another popular treatment
at our clinic however we are particularly
conservative when treating our
beautiful brides-to-be. We never want
to change someone’s appearance, we
strive to subtly augment or replace volume
in certain areas of the face such as
cheek, chin, jawline, nose or lips if indicated.
Dermal filler treatments take 30-
60 minutes to complete and can last on
average 6-24 months, depending on the
particular area treated and filler used.
You should always take care to ensure an
authentic FDA - approved premium dermal
filler is being used e.g. Juvederm Vycross
range. This may cost a little more to begin
with, but could save you thousands on corrective
work if your treatment is done by a
non-medical professional, or a cheap uncertified
filler is used.
You will see the results from dermal filler
injections immediately, followed by a period
of swelling and potential bruising, and
the overall settled and natural result will be
seen at 4-6 weeks.
If you would like any further information on medical aesthetic treatments, chemical
peels, Dermapen medical microneedling, ULTRAcel, Profhilo or Environ & Obagi
Medical skincare please visit our website at www.fitzgeraldprivateclinic.com

Real Life Bride to Be
- Naomi McLaughlin
HI EVERYONE! I hope you are all well and enjoying the second edition of the Save The Date Magazine.
I was delighted to be asked to return and give you some more wedding prep tips from my own experience.
I’m getting married in October, and the
last few months have been hectic trying to
finalise everything.
I think I’ve shot myself in the foot with this
wedding planning craic. For the first 18 months,
I found myself saying, ‘planning a wedding
isn’t one bit stressful, I don’t know what people
are on about.’ Well! Now I know what they’re
on about.
Trying to finalise everything, pick colours,
decorations, flowers and cars is stressful enough
without even talking about invitations, the guest
list or the table plan. Ok, I realise I sound a bit
frantic now and might be putting the dreaded
fear into any other future brides, so I’ll stop.
I thought I’d use this column to give you my
top three tips for planning a wedding. Now,
I know I’m not an expert, but if it helps one
person, then I’ll be happy.
1. Don’t listen to anyone but yourself and
your partner. Everyone will have an opinion,
and it could change what you initially wanted.
Keep things to yourselves and only ask the
views of people you really trust.
2. Budget from the start. Weddings can be so
expensive, and before you know it, you could
be spending thousands on decorations just to
please other people. Before you get sucked into
the hype, make a realistic budget of what both
of you can save each month. Make a list of
what you really want for your big day and start
from there.
3. Remember what’s important. The most
important thing about your wedding is that you
are marrying the love of your life. Just when
you think you’re about to throw the to-do list at
the wall, stop, take a few breaths and remember
what it’s all about. As long as the two of you
are happy, then that’s all that matters.
There are loads of other wee tips I could give,
but I’m sure you all have lots of help around
you when planning your big day.
If you read my last column, you would know
we were deciding where to go on my hen party
earlier this year. We all settled with Marbella,
Spain, and we’re heading off at the start of September.
Check out my Instagram if you want to
follow along with the craic. There will be lots
of cocktails and a few sore heads I’d imagine!
Thanks for reading!
